Backwater Farm

Backwater Farm Our Farm Store is no longer open. A wee, idyllic 40 acre farm on Puget Island, Washington in the lower Columbia River. A place where ”Hands On. Done Right.

A wondrous setting of quiet beauty where the sky seems bluer, the pastures greener and the times simpler. Proud Of It.” farming produces delicious results. Sadly, 2013 marked the end of an era of sorts... our entire garlic crop was lost to a wind borne fungus that is very, very difficult to get rid of. And so Friends, BWF is no longer growing the world class garlic we've all loved for years. But B

ackwater Farm is very much alive and growing forward! We now supply Meadow Raised Hens' Eggs to the Astoria Food Co-op, the Puget Island Farmers Market and others. We sell honey and some seasonal produce at the Puget Island Farmers Market as well. Our newest effort is raising hormone free, grass fed and grass finished beef. We will keep everyone posted on the particulars of this as the "to market" time draws near in the Fall of 2016!

Thank you Backwater Friends and Neighbors for helping us get through a year to be remembered, mostly for all the wrong reasons.

Mooving right along, we're excited for all the possibilities growing at this very moment here on the farm and look forward to sharing much in the days ahead.

Well hay there Friends and Neighbors, guess what? The BW Farm Store has just turned 2. Wow, plenty of change since year 1. One change is the new world order for our farm direct delivery as warm cozy spaces and a beautiful loft gallery gave way to the bed of a farm truck resting just outside the barn But that’s a good change actually as now everything we offer is usually ready for pick-up in short order 7 days a week.

As for BWF News-to-Use, our chickens are social distancing instead of egg laying. BW eggs will be a challenge for a bit but we’ll keep you posted. Coincidentally, we now have batches of fresh chicken broth slo-simmering at this very moment.

Just in time for seasons to come, there are farm-direct goodies a’plenty. We’re all stocked on bone broths and lavender breathe salts and sachets ahead of flu season. We have deelish jams, jellies, and quarts of BWF wildflower honey for Holiday Good Cheer. And finally, we have one more thing to share: small portion grass fed/grass finished angus beef for whenever the mood strikes.

The beef is a 1/20th share of a whole beef. Two beef divvied means two package sizes. 17 # and 22 # finished weights are available having vacuum packed portions of about half burger and the rest well marbled steaks and such. Best of all, our beef like all else is at-your-convenience-ready for pickup in a flash after a simple phone call or text message to Bruce at 503-358-8372.

So let’s be of good cheer and together celebrate Backwater’s Major Moments at Hand: A Backwater Birthday of note; an Inescapable Truth: the real Terrible Twos, 2020, are about to be over and most of all the better days soon to come. How lucky are we all to share momentous events with a diverse community of the best folks any Small Farm Store could possibly hope to call Friends and Neighbors?

Give us a call and get out of the house for some wholesome groceries that you can safely pick up in our driveway turnaround. It's a gorgeous day to grab up and bring home some farm goodness. Just sayin'.

Stay safe, stay healthy!

Our Farm Store is still open today & other times for the items listed in the menu. We also have a fresh batch of quarts of Chicken/Beef Bone Broth Extraordinaire and, since it's the 1st Saturday of a new month, our special today is 50 cents off on eggs! Also there is only one beef box left. Next opportunity for Backwater Farm Beef as it stands now is August.

But the only way all this works now is to first phone your order in to 503-358-8372 and I will bag it up for driveway pickup. Cash, Check or Card all OK. Thanks Backwater Friends and Neighbors Stay Safe, Stay Healthy.
