Ever wonder what a day may be like for house calls? Our job is not always puppies and kittens, but today there were kittens! Today it was across the map including Dyer, Munster, Valparaiso and Crown Point.

Our day started with 2 pitties and a kitty that we see often for routine care, along with diabetes management. We seem to have a nice rhythm with our recurrent care.

Then it was off to meet a sweet senior lab mix that has struggled with going to the veterinary office. We got to know her and create a plan for in home care and lessen her anxiety. Her pet parents strive to make everything easier on her in her older age.

Continuing on to see a rescue gang of 4 kitties and 3 doggos, each of them with wonderfully different personalities. It is so much easier for this busy family to have their care performed all at once in the home.

We really did get to see kittens (and momma)! Photos attached. These are the most social little buggers in all the land, thanks to their foster family. This crew is available for adoption through ABRA, Inc.

Then onto an annual visit for a sweet lab who just got back from hanging in daycare. She is treated like the queen of the house.

And finally, on to see a kitty who gets himself all worked up for travel, so house visits are just so much better for him and his mom.

We love the variety. We love our patients. We love our clients. Thanks for an excellent day. Now go adopt some kittens.

We were so busy and hope to have more photos for our large impact event today in East Chicago. East Chicago Animal Control started with this vision and we were able to make it a reality.

We are working on the official count, but we microchipped and vaccinated over ~350 animals for free.

Shout outs to Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health USA Inc., Elanco Animal Health, Silverstray Social and our very own Dr. Dines for donating the supplies needed to make this happen.

A heartfelt thank you to the doctors and technicians that joined in from our crew, St. John Animal Clinic and Dyer Animal Clinic to amplify the impact. Their skill and commitment to the Northwest Indiana community makes our hearts full.

Official count
Total 369
277 dogs

It's Batman!

We met this guy about a year and a half ago when he tore his cruciate ligament. You would have never guessed this fella was in his teens until then. We had a discussion about weight loss to help manage concerns for arthritis long term, as well as started him on medication to manage his pain.

Let's just say his family has knocked it out of the park. Batman is down 10 lbs over a reasonable timeframe, which is a whopping 10%. He was moving so much better today despite his arthritis and old injury.

He has no problem hanging on the scale for his photo, because Batman loves food, his family and home visits. Just don't talk to him about nail trims 😁

Congrats to Batman and his family on their excellent care ❤️

I frequently hear, we just don't know how you do it. Some days are draining and we try to be in six different places at once, but we have not perfected that just yet.

But this is how I do it. If you have had us in your home or shelter to care for your pets, you have likely seen at least one of these four along my side making everything a bit better. These are the most supportive people around, who join me on their days off, or jump in the car with me for an emergent situation with little notice.

They console, help you reflect on positive moments, provide excellent medical care, pack/organize the vehicle/trailer, deliver medications, draw blood from a vessel no one can even see, assist to the crematorium, prepare vaccines, ensure your pet is never without a snack, explain medical conditions and so much more. They ensure that my medicine and care is of the highest quality. They are truly the best.

Today we had our Christmas dinner to show my appreciation for these wonderful people. Although food, drinks and laughter could never fully express my gratitude, I will do the best to let the world know it's because of their excellence, skill, support and genuine kindness, that we can do all that we do.

Our days are anything but ordinary and most certainly include tons of snacks for our furry friends.

Thanks to private donors, today we had the pleasure of providing care to many dogs at East Chicago Animal Control. It can be very challenging and stressful to coordinate care for multiple animals in the shelter when there is not a vet on site, and it is equally stressful for animals already struggling with shelter life to be transported in and out for veterinary care.

By visiting the shelter, dogs had the opportunity to be around the staff members and volunteers from It's a Pittie Rescue that made them most comfortable. Many frequently rotated to ensure they were with the dogs that needed them the most. Let's just say there was no shortage of food or affection for these dogs.

But here is the bummer... These dogs do not get much foot traffic and they really do deserve a home. So encourage everyone you know to visit and adopt, because there are some wonderful dogs waiting for you there.
