Bettie’s Story
Bettie was born in a shelter. Her pregnant mother was one of over 160 Malamutes confiscated by a man who was admired in the breeder community, who had once bred ‘champion Malamutes’.
After complaints from several buyers, HSUS and the Jefferson County Sheriff's department investigated, raided and confiscated the dogs, all living in horrific and neglected living conditions. Mike Chilinski was arrested and was convicted of animal cruelty in connection with his Malamute breeding operation.
It's important to learn from history so mistakes are not repeated. Bettie’s story began with a breeder who was admired by the breeding community, but hid a terrible reality from those who trusted him.
Bettie’s mother was malnourished, under 30 lbs at the time she gave birth to six puppies. She should have been about 75 lbs. Only 2 puppies survived, both were born with a condition called Megaesophagus.
