FOUND PET PIGEON, very loving and full of snuggles and kisses. She’s in good health, just tired and hungry. She self rescued by landing on, and following a man who luckily helped her out. Found in Smyrna TN. If you’re missing a pigeon send me pictures, I won’t post a photo for her own safety.

So I’ve been looking at these recent intakes band numbers and made a startling discovery. Most have come from ONE racing coop with ARPU on the edge of Kentucky. Hes been “practicing his young birds” the one below that was in critical care (now doing amazing) was also from his coop. It has E. coli and canker. One person being irresponsible is overloading my rescue, taking up spots that could have saved birds that aren’t “cared for” by humans. He has a responsibility to these birds and he’s falling extremely short. Sorry, just frustrated and venting.

The past week has been so frustrating. 5-10 calls a day of found malnourished/ injured racing pigeons. People are abusing these birds for sport and us rescues get to suffer trying to keep up. I’m so over capacity and yet they just keep coming in, how do you say no knowing it’s the life of a bird? It’s not their fault they were exploited and abused. I’m one person, with a 70 hr work week and an infant. It was never supposed to get this hectic.

I’m going through a 50lb bag of seed every other week right now. Luckily I’m overstocked on medications or I’d be a mess. But you know what is a mess? My poor aviary. It’s over full, it’s hard to keep up. I need seed and bedding.

But on a more positive note, a pigeon with a broken keel bone and other injuries has healed and is able to walk. I thought she’d never have use of her legs again!

This sweet baby has a bad leg and deformed skull. It’s suspected he fell from a great height, likely by a hawk dropping it. Everything is healed to the best it can be.
