We had FOUR little himi babies born to Zanger's Nelly (Multiple BOB winner!) And Merchen's Puck. He's a hunky false dwarf buck Tracey gave us a couple years ago and we love the way his babies turn out! Finger's crossed these turn out as nice and small yet hunky babies that we can show later this year!

We still have 2 Netherland Dwarfs looking to hop.

Raven is a Black Jr. Buck. We showed him in the show this past weekend and he got good comments but he is still very young and has a baby coat so he didn't win anything. His ears both point up... this picture was from when he had just gotten tattooed so he was holding one funny.

*EDIT* TAKEN - TicTac is going to be a nice hunky girl. She is currently 3 months old and will be brood sized or good as a pet.. Her picture is also from when she was just tattooed.

We also have a whole Litter of mini lops that just turned 8 weeks old. If you are looking for a pet or possibly a 4H animal I can help you out!

We had a great day at the NTOP rabbit show in Lincoln yesterday! Of course this is the only picture I got but I'd say it is appropriate because Eliza won her 7th and final leg (with us anyway). She has now moved on to a new barn and will be helping make pretty big headed babies for Jonathan and Steven Wright down in KS.

We had several highlights yesterday including Merchen's Stacey winning BOS in Netherland Dwarfs. Zanger's Nelly either got BOG in the Netherland Specialty show. And our young Jr. Mini lops got good comments. We are very excited for them to continue to grow and mature into beautiful show buns!

It was super fun to see so many of our bunny friends and so many of you who brought Zanger bunnies that you have gotten from us in the past! We love seeing you!!!

Also, a highlight for me is that I was able to sell 5 rabbits! I may or may not have brought 2 new buns home with us, too, but, that still means we have 3 more empty cages than we had before!

The following bunnies will be with us at the NTOP Show in Lincoln on Saturday and will be looking for new homes. A couple of the Netherlands are BUD'S so can't be shown but could become mama's. Several just got tattooed today so are carrying their ears weird in the photos.

It has been quite awhile since we have introduced ourselves on our bunny page here so since we just got our family pictures taken I thought this would be a good opportunity to show the faces behind Zanger's Book Bunnies!

My name is Laurie and together with my husband, Eric, we have 5 wonderful kids. Our 3 oldest, Emma, Will, & Kate, along with myself are the ones who do all the work with our bunnies. Although our youngest, Anna, is quite the bunny holder and has already started showing along side her siblings at a few shows this past summer. Jack and Eric think the rabbits are cute but enjoy the fact that they don't have to touch them or do any of the chores! And that is totally fine with me.

We started our bunny journey in 2020 when we moved to our new home and Will wanted to get a pet bunny. He knew that I had one when I was a kid and he thought it would be nice to have one as well. At that point we knew nothing about the different breeds or the show world. All we knew is that he wanted a lop of some sort but it was actually quite hard for me to find one for him because I didn't even know where to start looking! Eventually, we heard of a guy in our small town who had a bunch of rabbits in his backyard and he sold us our 1st mini lop. Her name was Nibbles and she is the black bunny in our cover photo on this page. She was a great pet but her life tragically ended way too early when some stray dogs attacked our cages one night and she was the only casualty.

But, by that point we had begun to want to breed our rabbits so I had started doing a lot of research into that and learned about the show world and the Standard of Perfection for each breed. We slowly started adding show rabbits to our stock, showed them at the county fair, and began going to ARBA shows in NE and the surrounding states. We have met some great mentors who have not only helped educate us but also have shared some amazing rabbits with us as well. Will has done fantastic with his Mini Lops (and they have my heart as well!). And our girls love their Netherland Dwarfs and have done quite well with them as well. There has been SO much to learn but we now enjoy helping educate others and being able to provide quality show stock (and a few pets!) to others around the state.

3. Zanger's Prince Rillian - REW Sr. Buck. Excellent head and ear placement. Smooth body. Long shoulders. If used for breeding match him with a very short doe. 99% sure he is a Charlie underneath the white. (Zanger's Eliza x Bundles of Bunnies Burton) DOB: 4-5-24. 💲6️⃣5️⃣

4. GONE Zanger's Thistle - Young Solid Senior Buck. Gold-Tipped Steel. Nice wide ear. He got good comments about his body type including good width and shoulders from the judges. Needs better muzzle development and for his crown to still pop. *He is very friendly so could be a great 4H rabbit! (Zanger's Susan x Bundles of Bunnies Burton) DOB: 3-5-24 💲6️⃣5️⃣

8. GONE. Mr. Lemoncello ❤️ Himi Sr. Buck. This is a Haley Patten original. He can't show anymore nor has he been able to breed for quite awhile. He is a beloved pet here and has been well handled. He will only go to a trusted pet home. DOB: 6-4-20

9. Zanger's Bingo- Black Otter Jr. Doe. She is a BIG GIRL so could only be used for breeding. Can be feisty. (Patten's Dumpling x Zanger's Perloo) DOB: 5-17-24 💲4️⃣0️⃣

Yesterday we had a girl's trip to Malvern, IA for the Missouri River Region Rabbits Breeders Association rabbit show. Will had to stay home for a soccer game but all 3 girls showed his bunnies and their own and we had such a good day!

Highlights:

In Mini Lops, Zanger's Eliza won her 5th and 6th legs winning BOS and BOV (or BOSV... I Can't remember) in show A and B. This makes her tied with Zanger's Bluebell as our winningest bunnies of all time! Her incredible head has been her dominant feature since she was a baby and judges are still mentioning it every time she shows! Obviously,her body isn't half bad either! I didn't get a picture of her yesterday, though. Sad!

***And, yes, SHE REALLY IS FOR SALE still! We like to let our nice show stock and breeders move on to new barns around the time they are about 2 years old so they still have time to have a few litters to help someone else out. Eliza has had 3 litters for us and honestly has produced some of our best babies so far. If you are looking to add a nice show doe/breeder to your herd let me know!***

At the very end of the day when Netherlands were showing for the last time, Zanger's Nelly pulled off a sweet BOB win! We were all super proud of her for that!

A lot of the rest of our show team had JUST turned 6 months old so didn't place as highly against the older Seniors but still did pretty well. It was reassuring to hear the judges mentioning the same things about them that we have been seeing.

We do have several buns looking to move barns right now so let me know what you are looking for!

My word! Look at that ear shape and placement!

I have been waiting and waiting for the day we could grow a homegrown buck with a super thick ear this close to his eye. This is the correct placement and anything further back is called "slipped" (which there are varying degrees of this so don't worry if your bunny doesn't look exactly like this!) I am super hard on our bucks when evaluating them and so far VERY few have passed the test! Now, as long a this guy doesn't turn into a jerk, he might just get to stay and make some babies!

We just learned that there was another Zanger bunny at the Nebraska State Fair. Congrats to Ellie Janning and Zanger's ASLAN who won Reserve Champion mini lop! We know the mini Lop competition there is pretty strong so are so proud of you both!

Another congrats to Eva and Felix for showing their bunnies at the state fair! Both kids did great at showmanship and their bunnies, Clover and Pearl both earned purple ribbons!

It's always the ones I try so hard to sell as pets when they are young that end up having the best "glow-ups" right around this age! 😅😍

I'm glad no one took me up on Marie! Looking forward to showing her this fall!
