Happy 3 months to this little guy 💙

Highlights this month included seeing Santa and Mrs. Claus on Sweet Treat Saturday. We also celebrated Paisley’s 9th birthday on Sunday 12/15 and Arlo got to share in some cousin and friend fun. We attended her church program where she played Sally Brown and ate lunch with her at school to celebrate her birthday.

Sterling continues to like to doctor on Arlo and likes to hold him for 5-10 second increments. Sterling likes to sit on my lap when I am nursing and we have been watching Dr. K’s Exotix Animal ER. It’s a nice change up from our other favorite nursing show, The Incredible Dr. Pol.

Arlo is considering rolling over and has started moving those legs and hips. He also started sucking on his hands, but refuses the paci. I recently switched him to a Merlin Sleep Suit and he wakes up around 2am for a night feed and 5am for some snuggles with mom.

In case this all sounds too dreamy, I included a photo of the giant p**p/carpet disaster he also created. He’s still a bit of a finicky dude, but I’m very grateful for my schedule and hubby. We’ve been home to get all the snuggles and mom time he wants (aka demands), and I’m looking forward to the bigger baby stage as he gets a little more independent and starts to play. He also had his first and only bottle, so we want to work on that a little so I can get some breaks in too!

Here’s to a few more weeks of Christmas outfits and keeping it all together when the kid trio is home over break! 🤶🏼🎅🏼🎄

4-H Ham Day!

We signed Paisley up for the cured ham project this year in 4-H. Justin is at work, so Arlo, Paisley and I picked up two fresh hams at 8am in Columbia at the Mizzou Meat Market. Paisley did not like the early wake up time on a Saturday.

Thankfully, Sterling stayed the night with grandma Sherry to make our morning a bit smoother. We took our raw hams back to the 4-H building and got to work with the trimming, seasoning and wrapping portion of the day. My “this is not a baby friendly project” highlight was Arlo crying mid-seasoning and me holding him with raw pork and salt cure covering my hands. No pictures were taken during this step 😂

After that debacle, I did not have the heart to get the chain/rafter/permanent hanging situation ironed out and opted to wire them to a ladder, grab some diaper boxes to catch the drips, and wait a few days for super dad to get home and assist with this project.

We swapped kids with grandma Sherry so Paisley could go to practice for the church play, and the boys and I stopped by Angell’s Western Wear. We restocked our ground beef available for pick up for $6/lb. Sterling was feeling ornery and I’m thankful for long naps!

Arlo- 2 months

This sweet babe is already 2 months! This month I can’t believe how much he has grown and how his face is looking so serious and so grown up!

He continues to love being held and he takes a lot of contact naps with mom. I finished watching Monk, White Collar, and A Man on the Inside. TV continues to keep me sane while nursing and working on those naps!

Arlo likes napping in the car, playing patient for the big kids to doctor on, his sound machine while sleeping, being swaddled at night, and his little alligator weighted animal. He met Grandpa Larry, met Zaydin, went to Lloyd’s pumpkin patch, and joined our beach gang Halloween costume as a shark.

Paisley changed a p*e diaper and got him out of his car seat once or twice when she’s feeling extra big sis energy. She also started catching the morning bus, which buys us a bit of time and calmness in the mornings. She loves picking out Arlo’s clothes.

Sterling sweetly calls him “my brother” and “my baby” and often says “I love him. He loves me.” He is a proud big boy and reminds us that he is a big boy many times per day.

Sterling loves to say “I do it myself” and “you play with me?” being a big brother has brought out his independent and dependent streaks. He also likes for us to feed him again- a regression that takes me back about 18 months! Ahhhh, kids!

Month two was another snuggly one. We are all a bit tired but looking forward to another month with our big crew.

Happy First Responders day to this hot hubby! 🔥

These were a few photos I had saved in my favorites album. The first photo is from back in the early dating days… ahhh young love! Back when I had time to keep my hair maintained with that long blonde style!

Also lots of favorites of Zaydin and Paisley. When they first moved in with us I started graduate school at Mizzou and they attended daycare in Columbia. We were about a 5 minute drive from Justy’s station and we loved to stop by on our drive home.

Paisley’s kindergarten graduation… Justin came from work and Paisley was 10/10 excited that he made it and we were very proud.

Sterling and Paisley have made a few trips to the station recently and Arlo still has that on his very busy to do list. The photo of Sterling and Justin sitting on the truck is possibly my favorite photo of them together.

I’m spending this first responders day feeling thankful for Justin’s dream job and praying that he doesn’t go back to a fireman mustache anytime in the near future.

Arlo- 1 Month 💙

Our little man is a sweet one month old now! He’s mostly in the eat, sleep, p**p phase still but we are loving all the snuggles. He’s a bit finicky so my dream of LOTS of baby holding time is definitely coming true. Watching the big kids include him has been a highlight!

Likes- snuggles, nursing, car seat naps, meeting the family, mom
Dislikes- being set down, cold wipes, not being fed the moment he wakes up

Another stretch of fence is up! And I’ve officially gone 40 weeks 2 days of pregnancy. 🤰

Paisley thinks Justin might get the whole rest of the fence up before baby (feels true but certainly is not!).

Sterling picked a bouquet of grass/flowers and when I asked if they were for me he said, “No, Daddy!” so I’m feeling confident when new baby comes he is going to soak up all the extra time with Justy.

The not so terrible twos 😍

We celebrated Sterling turning 2 on 8/31 with lots of time with mom and dad, a trip with big sis to , two family dinners, and lots of fun!

Paisley did a great job adjusting to Sterling being able to open his own gifts… she was not prepared for that change 😂 And I think she took one of her best Polaroid pictures ever. He’s centered and in focus… yes!!!!

Sterling and I spent the day before his birthday home and checking cows with dad and he even “helped” with a little book work. It took me a week to find where he hid all my paper clips and I remembered why I am so thankful for grandmas and MaryKate’s daycare when things actually need to get done!

He’s our sweet little boy still and watching him grow up is such a joy!

I’m due on Wednesday… so now the challenge is to keep tidy what we’ve gotten “baby ready” and keep on napping and doing little projects.

I must be getting really close, because Justin packed has hospital bag after mine has been in the car for WEEKS!

PS- the baby is going to be in Paisley’s old room so the teal and pink decor is staying until we know if they are a boy or girl! What’s your prediction??? 🩷💙

This morning I was running right on time after a crazy night of non-sleep (hello baby kicks!)… I needed to get Sterling ready and out the door, take some roasts to Angell’s for a customer to pick up this morning, and head to Columbia for an ultrasound.

After Justin left to take Paisley to school and go check fall calving cows, I realized I had A LOT of unsorted meat I just picked up and that the roasts could be at the bottom of an 700ish pound pile 😂 My God nudge for the day was opening the freezer to find them right on top 🥰

If you’d like in on August beef, I’ve included all the details here! FAQs and locker information can be sent by email as well. No deposit needed reservations are open for the rest of the year as well… message to reserve your beef!

Cook with us! We had a little fun over our extra long Christmas break making beef jerky. This batch ended up delicious and very salty… but I think that’s just part of having kids in charge of the seasoning! Worth it! @schylermariephotography was there to help manage the chaos.

My baby snuggling my even smaller baby ❤️ And a quick behind the scenes of the actual chaos of life with a new baby ☺️ Plus a look at how I’m using my favorite “meal prep” strategy. During my pregnancy nesting phase I browned and froze 30# of Savannah’s Farm Fresh ground beef. Now I have a cooked protein ready to go in minutes. I also roasted and froze these tomatoes last summer… but in true rookie cooking fashion I didn’t have enough sauce after adding the noodles so I mixed some Prego in from Sam’s Club. Still felt like almost cooking from scratch to me 😂 Ground beef is restocked at Shek and Angell’s. Swing by and pick up burger for $6/lb anytime!
