It’s sad when someone trying to do good is hit with negativity. This picture was clearly taken from the yard of a “neighbor”.
But to answer their questions which I am in no way obligated to do please see below.
1. The house was appraised at $529k so not listed as overpriced. After buying the home I got all new appliances, installed a huge saltwater inground pool, updated several other things and so on. So it’s actually underpriced 😉
2. The house had additional rooms that were not used as a bedroom before. In order for you to list a room as a bedroom with a realtor it must have a closet. My son’s ping-pong/game room did not have a closet so it was not listed as a bedroom. The family room was converted to a dining room and the dining room was easy to convert to another bedroom. The 2 car garage will be used as a game room area.
3. Whether you agree with it or not, it is my property and I’m free to do with it as I please. I have a deep connection to the mental health field, and those struggling with addiction (no I am not in recovery as I have never had that struggle) and see how some programs work and I wanted better options. Anyone who knows me knows I’m blunt, can be rude if needed and I don’t put up with bull. Some love me and some hate me for it. My sober living homes will not be a place just to house people and collect money but will be a place to recover and heal.
4. I purposely chose to do it at this location versus buying another as I do not want my participants to be in the heart of the city. I want to limit their access to certain things in order to help the process. There is a bus stop within a walking distance. The house has been on the market for quite some time because I was in another country for several months of that enjoying life with my children. I actually had a request to show it twice this week, but I declined.
5. We have been open for 10 years and I’ve had no violations with the state and continue to grow. Trust me we are the type of company that you want helping folks in your area. While I am willing to help just about anyone I do require that they be willing to help themselves. I have high standards and I expect the participants to live up to them. I also have no issues telling someone we’re not the right program and they need to go somewhere else.
6. If you don’t want to be our neighbor then consider selling your home to me for a fair market value. But I assure you there are sober living homes in MOST communities.
7. My goal was to keep the location of our Recovery home private as I did not want participants randomly showing up at the door asking for a bed. I also did not want random people to know where our participants were living so that their previous life could not find them. But since you put the location out there, at least everyone can now see how nice of a home it is and thanks for the free advertisement.
8. Your property values? My home is literally the nicest home on the street. 🤷♂️
With all that said, I do want to let the neighbors know that I do hear them and I do see their concerns. My home will be ran with structure and respect. I will have cameras inside and outside of my home in all common shared space areas. There is a whole house security system. There will be staff members there on a daily basis, checking in and the participants will be held accountable and must meet our expectations to stay. If at any point a participant is causing trouble feel free to reach out to me directly on this page and I will do my best to address it as quickly as possible.
I do want to say that I read the comments on this post and I was overjoyed with all the positivity and those that were taking up for me and supported this project.
Lastly, we are hiring for a PRSS and a supportive counselor/case manager so if you meet the qualifications, please reach out.
With much love, respect and the desire to help,
Danny
