We want to clear up a common misunderstanding regarding rehoming posts shared on our page.

The Fur Mama does not decide whether an animal needs a new home. When a rehoming post is made and then shared, it is because the current owner has reached out to us asking for help spreading awareness. We do this because we are connected with wonderful people, rescues, and community groups—not because we influence or control an owner’s decision. If we push the post enough, we can reach between 40k and 80k views.

We do not take animals into our homes and we do not pressure, persuade, or judge current owners. Our role is strictly to help amplify information so the animal has a better chance at a safe and appropriate outcome.

Rehoming is hard, emotional, and deeply personal—we understand that. However, harassment, assumptions, and disrespect will not be tolerated. We will not stand by while being attacked for simply trying to help an animal in need.

If you have questions, ask respectfully.
If you want to help, share the post or offer resources.
If you cannot do either, please scroll on.

At the end of the day, our goal is the same: the well-being of the animal.

✨ Gimli Update ✨

As of 12/23/25, Gimli is currently safe in a foster home and being given the time, care, and stability he needs while his future is thoughtfully planned. 🤍

The current plan is for Gimli to transition to what we truly hope will be his forever home on 12/27. This placement would be an indoor home with a family, on a property with farm animals, and with one of the doctors who bonded with him during his hospitalization.

This is being approached carefully and with Gimli’s best interests at the center of every decision. If for any reason this placement doesn’t work out, the foster/rescue is fully committed to continuing the search until the right fit is found. Gimli will not be rushed and he will not be failed.

We’ll continue to share updates as they become available. Thank you to everyone who shared his story, advocated for him, and helped get him to this point. Your support truly matters.

12/23/25 UPDATE: FOSTER HOME FOUND

HELP US FIND GIMLI HIS FOREVER SAFE PLACE 🤍

This is Gimli — a Great Pyrenees / Anatolian Shepherd mix who has already beaten the odds once and now needs our help again.

Gimli will be 6 years old on 12/29. He’s neutered, microchipped, fully vaccinated and has been in a loving home for the last four years after being rescued. He is known for being gentle, calm, and wonderful with people. If you’ve met him, you know he’s the kind of dog that leans into you and quietly asks for trust.

Recently, Gimli was involved in an unexpected altercation with another dog. Because of his breed and size and out of an abundance of caution for everyone’s safety, we are now seeking a home where Gimli can truly thrive — ideally as an only dog, or with someone deeply experienced with guardian breeds.

🩺 Current status:
Gimli is currently receiving care at the University of Illinois Small Animal ER for injuries related to the incident. He is expected to be discharged within 24 hours after IV antibiotics. Despite everything, he was calm, cooperative, and gentle with all ER staff, just as he’s always been.

What Gimli needs:
• A calm, stable, experienced home
• Someone who understands large guardian breeds
• A place where he can feel safe and not have to compete

What he comes with:
• Harness & leash
• Food & water dishes (with some food)
• A heart that just wants peace

Gimli has never shown aggression toward people and has always been described as very gentle. This decision is not being made lightly — it’s being made out of love, responsibility, and a desire to give him the best possible future. A small rehoming fee will be discussed to ensure he’s going to a good home.

If you can’t take him but know someone who might be the right fit, please share. If you work with rescues, fosters, or have connections to guardian-breed homes or farms, we are open to all safe leads. If you would like to know more or speak with his current owner, please TEXT 217-900-5738!

🐾 Busy Season Update — Please Read 🐾

We have officially entered the busiest season of pet sitting here at The Fur Mama. Over the next 3 weeks, most of our sitters are working 12+ hour days, often with multiple appointments daily.

• Communication outside of active appointments will be very limited
• When animals are in our care, they have our full attention and phones are typically only out for photos and client updates
• Increased travel + packed schedules = very little downtime

📱 Response times may range from several hours to a couple of days, depending on the nature of the message. This is completely normal during this season and is never intentional.

We appreciate your patience, understanding, and continued trust while we focus on what matters most — your pets’ safety, comfort, and care 🐶🐱🤍
