We are excited to welcome Dr. Paige Cooper to our growing FVC Family! Dr. Cooper was born and raised in Denver, Colorado and knew from a very young age that she wanted to help animals. Dr. Cooper completed her undergraduate studies at Louisiana Tech where she played Division 1 Volleyball. She then moved to Arizona, where she excelled through the rigorous program at Midwestern School of Veterinary Medicine. She has been serving patient's locally since, and is excited to join our team in our mission to see our patients live their happiest, healthiest, and longest lives!

Outside of work, Dr. Cooper enjoys outdoor sports and loves to travel! Dr. Cooper shares her home with her husband and son, as well as their 5 four-legged kiddos (3 dogs, 2 cats!). She is seeing patients at Family VetCare of Mesa and we can't wait for you to meet her!

“…we are dedicated to caring for people and their pets as FAMILY to help them live healthier, happier, and longer lives.” These are not simply pretty words to describe our mission; it is who we are at our core!

Our teams are always busy giving a voice to the voiceless, caring for our patients and clients as Family, and generally influencing our veterinary community with positivity.

This weekend we rallied together to impact our community in a different way. We seized the opportunity to help alleviate hunger by working with Midwest Food Bank to package food that will be delivered to people in our community with the greatest need.
Our family loved having the opportunity to reach out beyond our hospital doors, and we are excited to help our community more in the future. In the words of Ronald Reagan, "We can't help everyone, but everyone can help someone!"

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of one of our own, Lauren Anderson.

Although Lauren had not been able to work with us since 2018 due to her medical battle, once you are a part of this Family, you are always a part of this Family. 💜🐾 We are all feeling the loss of such an amazing vibrant soul.

Lauren was able to influence so many lives while she worked within these walls. She connected with people so naturally and bonded with every patient as if it were her own. You could always rely on Lauren to see the best in things and work through the toughest patient cases with such amazing compassion.

If you have a special memory with Lauren, we would love for this platform to serve as a place for her close friends and family to see how much good she was able to bring to the world. Please share your memories in the comments.

Our thoughts and prayers are with her loved ones during this difficult time.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Take a look at our updated hours for the week🦃

Meet Lenore!

Lenore was seen at our Chandler location by Dr. Nemeth for her first ever wellness exam. Dr. Nemeth and Lenore's family set the ground work for the best habitat and diet a bearded dragon could ask for.

We are looking forward to seeing Lenore as she continues to grow!

King Louis I the French Bulldog who is 1.5 years old is here to tell us about: Safe Fun in the Summertime 😎

Summer means getting outdoors, getting on the road, and getting your barbeque on—but it can also be hazardous for your pet. Here are some tips to make sure you and your furry friend have the best summer ever! 🌞

🥵 Heat kills! Never leave your pet in a car, even for a quick trip! On a sunny 70o day, your car can heat up to over 100o in minutes. Hot asphalt will scorch your pet’s paws—so if it’s too hot for your bare feet, it’s too hot for your pooch.

💦 Don’t let your dog drink seawater, lake water or river water. Water from the ocean can bring on vomiting and dehydration, while lake and river water are often full of bacteria that can cause illness. If there’s a bloom of blue-green algae, your pet could be at risk of liver failure and nervous system damage if they ingest it.

🐍 Copperheads/Rattlesnakes are the most common venomous snake in our region and they’re found statewide. Keep your pet leashed, on trails, out of marshy areas, and no sniffing where you can’t see to avoid these very dangerous bites.

🪲 Even if your pet is on a tick preventative, it’s a good idea to check for these little dudes after being outdoors. They can jump from pets to people and carry nasty illnesses, including Lyme disease.

🥩🌽🦴 Cookouts are tasty, but cooked meat bones often splinter and become hazardous if swallowed. Nix the corn cobs, too—they can cause intestinal blockage.

🚘🛩 If you’re taking your pet on the road or in the air, health and/or travel certificates from an accredited veterinarian may be required. Our veterinarians can issue those and ensure your pet is healthy enough to travel.

🏠If you’re off on a vacay without the fur kids, make your boarding reservations now as spots fill fast during the summer months. You’ll also want to make sure your pet is current on all required vaccinations for boarding. Rabies and DAPP within 1 year and Bordetella within 6 months of boarding stay. 💉

Otis the English Golden Retriever who is 2 years old is here to tell us about:

What is that scary sound? 😱

Fireworks and thunderstorm season is here and while you may enjoy both, the racket can be downright terrifying for your dog. If your pet trembles, whines, drools, or clings to you when there’s loud noises, he or she likely suffers from a condition known as noise aversion.⛈🎆

There are several things you can do to help your pet get through these events:
* Turn on soothing music to dull the noise or try distracting your dog with games and toys. 🦴🎾🎶
* If your pet is healthy enough, vigorous exercise or play can sometimes help alleviate stress.🐾💨
* If exercise and distraction aren’t options, there are natural solutions to try including compression clothing like a Thundershirt or calming aromatherapy herbals such as lavender oil. 🥰
* Should your pet have serious noise aversion and other remedies are not effective, our vets can help with various prescription anti-anxiety medications.💊
If you’d like to make an appointment to talk about anti-anxiety medications or to get your pet microchipped, just give us a call!

Meet Marsh! 🤍
Marsh is a Corgi who was seen at our Phoenix location and diagnosed with Giardia. Marsh had to go through two treatments prior to finally beating Giardia’s butt! 🤺

Giardia, pronounced jee-ARE-dee-ya, it’s not a worm, bacteria, or virus—just a simple, one-celled parasite that can make your pet (and you) feel terrible.

It’s also pretty common. While infected pets may not show symptoms right away, giardia can cause persistent diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, gas, and vomiting—and can sometimes be difficult to clear.

How does your pet get giardia? By doing what they love to do: rolling in contaminated soil or f***s and then licking themselves, or drinking from contaminated creeks, puddles, and random bodies of water.

While there are no drugs or prevent giardia, it can usually be easily treated with a few days of medication. If your pet has become dehydrated or severely ill, additional treatments or a modified diet may be needed.

The other important thing to remember is that this parasite is zoonotic—meaning it can be transmitted from animals to people, although it’s rare for that to happen. However, it’s highly contagious to other pets in the household. That’s why if you have an infected pet, you should make sure to disinfect bowls, toys, bedding, litter boxes, crates, and other pet items regularly until your pet is recovered.

Have questions about giardia or have a pet with symptoms? Just give us a call, we’re here to help!

It’s getting hot, hot, hot, and Arizona weather is no joke!
High temperatures can cause serious health problems for our pets if we don’t keep them cool. Follow these tips to keep pets safe this summer. ☀️

Don’t leave your pet in the car, even on mild days. Vehicle interiors heat up dangerously quickly when the sun is out. 🚘
Beware hot pavement on sensitive toes. Check pavement temperature with the palm of your hand before taking your pup for a walk, if it is too hot on your palm it is too hot for their paw! 🐾
Don’t shave all their hair off! It may seem like a good idea to give your pet a drastic new ‘do, but their hair actually helps keep them cool by protecting them from the sun’s rays.🐩
Don’t over-exercise. Physical exertion is more taxing when it’s warm. Let your pet take it slow.💨
Provide plenty of water at all times. Pets need to stay hydrated just like we do, and that need for water becomes more critical in the heat.💧

Symptoms of overheating include excessive panting, increased heart rate and drooling, which can quickly advance to seizures, collapse, vomiting and bloody diarrhea. If your pet exhibits any of these symptoms, call immediately at (480) 759-9494 or the closest pet ER to you.

It is Dog Anxiety Awareness Week and Dogtor Astro is here to educate us all about it!

Just like us humans, dogs can also suffer from fear and anxiety!
Dog Anxiety Awareness Week annually occurs May 3-9, and brings needed attention to the emotional well-being of your fur baby.
Dog’s can’t speak to us and tell us what they are feeling so it is our job to notice the signs. You can see signs of anxiety in changes of behavior, eating habits and/or bathroom behaviors.

Visit our website (link in bio), go to our resource tab, click Pet Library and Helpful Links and select Pet Health Articles from there you may research anxiety and see what you can do to be an advocate for your fur baby!

Here at Family VetCare we take pride in our relationships. Today we are giving a special shout out to Tank and his wonderful parents. Tank was seen at our phoenix location for a TTA procedure with Dr. Wodiske. Tank’s family was so kind to bring us some goodies and express how thankful they are for us. His family updated us saying Tank is doing amazing after the procedure, his therapy is on track and he his taking it on like a champ! He is even ready to start running around and play ball! Thank you for trusting us with your fur baby and for the goodies!

Here are some pictures of Tank from that day 😊
