My dog is too hot; the hair has to come off….or does it?!!

The hair is a natural wind and sun barrier and is essential in the movement of oils across the skin. Each hair follicle is attached to a muscle call the Erector Pili that raises and lowers the hair in a complex ventilation system to keep the pet cool in summer and warm in winter. Humans have melanin in our skin that darkens to protect us from the sun, our pets don’t have this in their skin, it is in their hair! Once we shave the hair barrier off there is no more protection.

Own a or a dog with a natural coat? Read below!
These are the canines must people think of as having fur type coat. This coat grows to a set length then stops growing. This coat type requires more minerals then other coat types and they also shed. Shedding is normally the issue a lot of clients have with this breed.

Examples of this coat type are Golden Retrievers, German Shepherds, Border Collie, Corgi, and English Springer Spaniel.

Long coat type pet owners!!!

Canines with this coat type need a lot of hydration to ensure a healthy skin and coat. This coat type can be difficult due to this. lack of hydration is one of the big reasons these canines mat so easily. It is important to provide hydration during the bathing process. This is also the coat type that can have a wide variety of styles due to their coat structure.

Short coated dogs have there own special coat needs. They require more oil then any other coat type. Due to this the products that are used on these breeds need to maintain there sebum(oil) and restore any that is taken away during the grooming process. Our services for short coated breeds are designed to care for your dogs skin and coat while addressing some of the main issues we see in short coated breeds such as shedding,dry coat,dry skin, and more.

What coat type does my dog have?

At Unfurr-Gettable mobile dog grooming we understand that coat type may be a new term that you have never heard of before. Coat type is a term that discribes your dogs coat lenght and needs. Most canines fall into 3 basic coat types long,medium(or natural), and short. however some mix breeds have a combination coat. Here is some examples of types.

long: poodle,shih tzu,Bichon frise,havanese,lhasa apso,etc

medium: pomeranian,Samoyed,St.Bernard,Australian Shepherd,Border collie,etc

short: Beagle,Boxer,Bulldog,Frenchie,Boston terrier, chihuahua,Dalmation

Does your canine get stressed while grooming? Here are a few things that may help!
1. Zylkene:
Our pets often suffer the stress of being in different or unusual situations. Zylkene’s non-drowsy formula can help promote a sense of calm in stressed animals, improving their quality of life, and yours! Ours is the only brand to contain alpha-casozepine, a naturally-occurring milk protein found in cow’s milk. 2. Catnip: catnip in dogs has a sedative like quality. It helps a dog relax in a natural way. The toy picked is a toy you can fill with catnip and then play tug or fetch with and it helps tire them out and helps them by smelling the catnip.
3. Exercise: a tired dog is less likely to be stressed as dogs can only think about one thing at a time. This includes mental and physical exercise. A 15min walk and some mental activity before a groom can help tore your pup out to help the grooming process become less stressful
4. Make it a routine: grooming done monthly helps a dog become less stressed about the unknown.
5. Work with your groomer: your groomer can provide tips to help and may be able to refer you to a trainer.

A rescue dog changed my world…and helped me start this business. Her name was Daisy Quake….she was a Boston terrier rescued from Mid Atlantic Pug Rescue
I am so thankful I got to be her mom for the two short years I had her! Dogs leave foot prints on our hearts and she did more by leaving foot prints in my previous dog business and this one!

Motivation Monday! The video is still hard for me (miss. Taylor) to look at. It’s been two years since I lost daisy my Boston but she is the reason I am so motivated about skin and coat care and that it’s a necessity in grooming! The video shows her skin at its worse! While Veterinarians are amazing and helped so much with her. Her skin and coat care fell onto me. I needed to help her! To make her comfortable and that was my motivation. Now it’s to never let a dog owner go through the pain I felt seeing her skin in this state. I broke me! I am not ashamed to say that seeing my daughter ( yes I think of my dogs as my kids) like this made me mad,sad,feel lost, and ask God why! But it is because of her I am now a Certified Canine esthetician and working on becoming a master Aesthetician. Daisy is my motivation! To learn more about her and my story visit our website!
