9 dogs were left in their crates last night, dumped at the front door of the shelter. Apart from the fact that we have zero space, that this is in addition to the 40 dogs that came into the shelter yesterday…thinking about what they must have felt as they sat there terrified is unfathomable.

Yes, the shelter has cameras. Staff will spend time trying to figure out who added to this unbelievable mess in such a cruel way. But the point is, we can’t keep up. This wave of dogs being dumped without a thought to their wellbeing, to the wellbeing of the staff and volunteers who will spend the day scrambling to figure out what to do in the face of no kennel space — it’s heartless and it’s unsustainable.

So please, remember this photo if you’re thinking about getting rid of your pet. If you’re thinking about leaving a rude comment about shelter staff euthanizing animals. Think about what these 9 cages represent and then think about how can you help?

Donations Needed: Cat Carriers

Kitten season is right around the corner, and the shelter is in need of cat carriers! If you have any plastic cat carriers in good condition that can be sanitized, please consider donating them. The carriers would be put to great use in helping to transport cats safely.

You can drop them off at the shelter’s front counter during business hours. Your donation will make a big difference in the lives of the cats the shelter cares for!

The sweetest Cherry🍒

This 8 years young girl found herself at the top of the euthanasia list last week. She found some temporary respite but is slated to come back to her kennel by Friday if we can’t figure out a solution for her. Cherry was so happy to be in a comfy home and we’d love to find another one for her to safely land in! Here’s more info on this girl - who happens to have some of the best ears around!

Hello Mr. Spyro! This sweet older gentleman is full of life and love and he’s so ready to find a home. At the shelter he bloodied his little nose from nudging his kennel door all day long. Thankfully he’s in a foster home now but really needs a family of his own.

Spyro 101:
• Potty + Crate Trained
• Friendly with foster’s resident dogs
• Very sweet boy with a heart of gold
• Loves playing tug-of-war + spins if he wins
• Did great on public outing - no reactions to bikes, dogs of all sizes, etc
• Overall calm + low key
• Likes b***y scratches
• Walks well with a harness
• Gently takes treats
• Sweetest smile
• Great attitude + fun guy
• Know sit command. Working on heel and come.
• Good on leash but will pull a bit when he sees other dog. Easily redirect
• Co-exist with cats
• Will let you know he needs to go potty outside

This blue eyed cutie is Junior!

Here are some of Junior’s main interests:

💙Making everyone laugh with his loving and goofy personality

Junior isn’t particularly interested in his foster kitty sibling. He is crate trained and will do well in it when no one is home. Junior’s house training is coming along, too! He’s loving life out of the shelter and we think he’d thrive in most households. We’re not totally sure about breeds - who else sees husky, Carolina dog, and lab mix there?!

There have been 140 dogs that have come into since this past weekend - so you know what that means. We need your help to clear some kennels. We are looking for a goal of at least 20 dogs to leave today.

Dogs like Dodger deserve a chance. He’s at our Toomey location. Here are what volunteers say about this cutie!

“Dodger was easy to leash up and walk today; he was full of energy and pure joy - his tail never stopped wagging - an adorable, handsome pup; he knew “sit”; not mouthy (but we did work on taking treats gently); may jump for joy but he was easy to redirect with treats and toys; could entertain himself in the yard but also loved a round of fetch; a playful and affectionate demeanor (he gave puppy kisses); he seemed to have good recall too! A GREAT young dog!”

Find a dog who loves toys more than Buddy. He even carries around his emotional support tennis ball. 🎾 🥺 But he’s happy to share and just wants to play! He’s just under 2 years old.

Buddy previously lived in a home with children and did well with them. Same with dogs! We think he’s potty trained too.

33 dogs came into the shelter yesterday. It’s mind boggling. Worse, it puts dogs like Manuka at risk. Please consider fostering, doing a staycation, or becoming a committed adopter. Dogs like Manuka are counting on you!

• Seems eager to please
• Gives sweet + gentle kisses
• Has the best zoomies in the play yard
• Likes treats + takes them gently
• Extremely loving + affectionate girl

• Very athletic and fast! She would love a yard to run around in or an active hiking buddy!

Medical foster needed for Athena ❤️‍🩹

- Has malignant mast cell tumor
- Can receive treatment but needs a clean place to recover because the drug forms a wound and it has to be kept clean
- Does well with female dogs (unknown about male)
- No cats for this girl
- Sweet and affectionate
- Loves belly rubs
- Easy to walk
- Loves treats

Shelter vet will be able to speak with you directly about any questions you have.

Administering meds and sending in pics would be needed by foster.

Treatment and recovery is about a month.
