As beach season approaches, many of us will be leaving Charlotte and surrounding areas to head to the coast. You will pass through a lot of small southern towns with very loose animal welfare laws.

If you happen to see many dogs chained up or a situation that may look like this it's best to google the area you are in animal control office or call the nonemergency police line. When you call all you have to do is request a welfare check.

Since January over 15 dog fighting rings have been broken up in the state of North & South Carolina, let that sink in!

Notes from the finder:

I watched this sweet boy get dumped near my driveway and it broke my heart as he tried to chase after the car the abandoned him. I took him to the vet and she determined he is less than a year old, has great teeth, and a healthy heart. Everyone at the vet loved him! He is very sweet and deserves a forever home.

When we saw Pickles curled up on the shelter floor, we knew we weren’t in a position to take on another dog—but walking away wasn’t an option. He smelled so bad that some of the staff gagged while holding him. His tiny body was covered in infection, and his pain was obvious to anyone who walked by him. His toenails had grown so long that they curled into his paw pads, making it painful for him to walk.

We’ve given Pickles a safe place to rest and recover (he has the best foster), but he still has some healing ahead. His ear infection is stubborn, and he’ll need a few more vet visits to finally be free from the suffering he’s endured for far too long, but there are brighter days ahead!

We can’t do this alone. Pickles deserves a fresh start, and with your help, we can give him that. Every donation, share, and word of support brings him closer to the healthy, happy life he deserves. We need help paying for his medical care to get him in tip top shape to find a family of his own.

🥒 Pickles is ready for his forever! 🥒

A little about our Mr. P…
- a purebred Shih Tzu
- 7/8 years old
- completely housetrained and a perfect gentleman when left alone (note: ALL dogs have accidents, especially when they’re adjusting to a new environment. Mr. P hasn’t had any thus far, but they are to be expected and are a part of pet ownership)
- loves car rides and other dogs
- he enjoys napping, hanging outside, walks

We pulled Pickles from where he was completely shut down and hurting. Thanks to the shelter and our amazing village of vets, groomers, fosters, and volunteers, Pickles is an entirely different dog — happy and ready for a home to call his own 🩵
