☀️ REMINDERS FOR PET OWNERS IN A HEATWAVE:

1. 🚗 Never leave pets in a parked car — even for a minute!

2. 🐾 Hot pavement burns paws — test with your hand; if it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for them.

3. 💧 Fresh, cool water and shade are a must at all times.

4. 🐕‍🦺 Walk during cooler hours — early morning or late evening.

5. 🌀 Use fans, cooling mats, or damp towels to help them cool off inside.

6. ⚠️ Know the signs of heatstroke: heavy panting, drooling, vomiting, unsteady gait, or collapse — seek vet care immediately.

7. 🐇🐦🐢 Small pets need help too — keep cages/enclosures out of direct sun and use frozen bottles or tiles to keep things cool.

Let’s keep all our furry (and feathered/scaled) friends safe and comfortable during this extreme heat! 💛🐾

REMINDER: POLICY CHANGES JULY 1

Starting July 1, new shelter policies take effect at the Animal Care Center.

Microchipping: All pets entering ACC care will be microchipped. This is an effort to help identify pets that may be lost multiple times and help them return home sooner. If pets come in as strays, their microchip will be registered to their owner upon reclaim.

Reclaim fees: Pet reclaim fees are increasing at the Animal Care Center. Starting July 1, 2025:
- Pets who are microchipped and spayed or neutered can be reclaimed for $25.
- Pets who are not spayed/neutered can be reclaimed for $125 on the first offense, $325 for the second offense, and $500 for the third offense.

Community members will have the option to allow the ACC to spay or neuter the pet at no charge before reclaiming. Community members who opt for this will not have to pay the large reclaim fees.
