* Ella Jane’s Story: A Heartfelt Journey to Find Her Forever Home

Ella Jane’s story began with heartbreak. After her beloved owner passed away, she was surrendered to the shelter along with her housemate. While her housemate found a new family almost immediately, Ella Jane’s path took a bit longer and was filled with challenges.

In the early days, Ella Jane bounced between three different foster homes. At just 1-2 years old, her youthful, energetic spirit—paired with a bout of kennel cough—made it difficult for her to settle in. But despite these setbacks, Ella Jane never lost her gentle heart and hopeful spirit. When she was finally cleared of her illness, she found herself in the care of her current foster, where her transformation has been nothing short of remarkable.

When she first arrived at the shelter, Ella Jane weighed around 52 pounds. But by the time she reached her current foster home, she had dropped to just 40 pounds. Thanks to the love and care she received, she has regained her strength and now weighs a healthy 50 pounds. She’s been spayed, and has shown just how incredible she is, both in her crate and when she’s exploring her new world in the house.

Ella Jane is learning to navigate the world with other dogs, though she needs slow introductions and is working through some toy resource guarding. She currently lives with two resident cats—while she’s not exactly a cat fan, she’s content as long as they respect her space.

When it comes to mealtime, Ella Jane is fed in her crate, but she has never shown any signs of food aggression. In fact, she takes treats so gently, even when sharing the moment with the resident dog. She’s a superchewer at heart, loving tough toys like Benebones—though she adores soft squeaky toys, they just don’t stand a chance with her powerful jaws!

Ella Jane’s favorite pastimes include playing fetch and going on walks. She would be the perfect companion for someone who loves to hike or run. But more than anything, Ella Jane loves people. She’s a hugger, a snuggler, and thrives in a home where she feels safe, loved, and understood. She loves kids, she sees one walking by and her tail starts wagging.

This sweet girl has been through so much, yet her spirit remains unbroken. With the right person or family, Ella Jane will flourish and give back so much love in return. She’s searching for her forever home, a place where she can continue to grow and be the phenomenal dog she’s meant to be.

Could you be the one to give Ella Jane the love and stability she’s been waiting for? She’s ready to be someone’s best friend and loyal companion—could that someone be you?

Our Shelters are full again. Here's this mornings email (and it is being sent at least weekly and sometimes more often):

Hey foster family! It’s unfortunate that we have to send out another plea for fosters as we are running into overcapacity issues once again. This doesn’t get easier and we truly appreciate all the time and commitment that you all have given our animals thus far. At this rate both dogs and cats will be at risk if they cannot get out the shelter soon. We are asking for help if you are able to foster and help get these animals out of the shelter ASAP. We recently ran into a large of amount of kitten litters so we are making a push to get our feline friends out of the shelter as fast as we can. If you have friends or family that are willing to help and become part of our foster community, please let them know as we need all the help we can get.

If you are interested in fostering or can share the link below, the pets in our communities could really use our help (Please Spay & Neuter your pets!):

Thank you for fostering with us.

DO NOT FILL OUT THIS APPLICATION IF YOU ARE LOOKING TO ADOPT. If you want to adopt a pet, great and thank you! Go to 8315 Byrum Dr to adopt a pet; this includes meeting a foster parent's adoptable pet.

Something to be aware of during these hot summer months

For PET OWNERS that take their dogs to lakes and creeks, please read this warning from Morgan & Patrick Fleming.

This morning we thought, it’s so hot! Let’s go to the lake! We took our sweet Arya to the lake and had the best day playing ball and swimming around! About 30 minutes later on the drive home, we noticed her making weird noises and she threw up and pooped in the car. We called our vet on the drive and they suggested we take her in. By this point our girl couldn’t even stand. They told us she was in critical condition so we took her to the ER. By the time we got there, she was brain dead. Today was absolutely awful. We lost our fun, loving, and crazy girl to what we can only assume was a lake toxin such as blue green algae. Arya, no dog will ever replace you in our hearts. We already miss you more than you could know. I hope you’re running around like a wild girl with all the other boarder collies in doggo heaven ♥️

Let's talk about this photo. It's cute, except it's not. I see a dog who cannot get up without telling the child to get off. How do you think a dog is going to do that?

The 7 Golden Toddler Dog Rules:
#1: If a dog walks away from you, you DO NOT FOLLOW.
#2: Always leave room for the dog to walk away from you.
---that right there is 90+% of dog bites eliminated---
#3: We do not climb on the dog.
#4: We do not grab or pull on the dog.
#5: We do not hit or throw anything at the dog.
#6: We do not touch the dog's food.
#7: We do not go into the dog's kennel.

I promise these are not overly difficult concepts for littles, nor will they rob a kid of their bond with the family dog. It will deepen that bond, while keeping everyone safe.

"Oh, it looks like Moose is walking away from you. She is saying she wants a break. Let's play with this instead!"

"It's Moose's dinner time! Let's give her space to enjoy her yummies."

"That is Moose's room(kennel) and only she is allowed to go in there."

"If Moose wanted a break, could she walk away from you right now? No she really couldn't. Let's move away from the play house. You can keep playing but now she can leave when she wants a break."

In conclusion, ***parent your child or your dog will do it for you, and you will not like how they do it.***

PSA about ticks

PSA about ticks

From a local gardener:
This tick has been on display for us to show people for a while. After months in a sealed container without any additional feeding, she laid eggs. This demonstrates how long a tick can remain dormant and how many eggs one female can lay. Remember, ticks become active again in the fall, so continue with preventive measures.
If you encounter a small pile of jelly-like balls in your garden, act immediately! These are tick eggs and they're set to hatch soon. The right side of the image shows the life stages of a tick, for your reference.
Either set them on fire or destroy them by soaking in isopropyl alcohol. Be sure to wear gloves if you handle the nest, as it contains hundreds of tick eggs that will hatch in a few weeks. I believe it's important to share this post because tick bites can be dangerous.
Stay safe and informed to protect yourself and your garden from these tiny but dangerous creatures!
