Let’s talk aggression, specifically in regard to these two. One is dog aggressive and lacks impulse control, with a splash of big scary world, and has put other dogs in the hospital and nearly killed them.

The other, human aggressive, can and will bite anyone at anytime, and has learned that charging its owners makes them come alive and run in fear, thus the game even better!

Now which do you think fits the description above?

Never judge a book by its cover, because Mr. Buddy here, our resident Jack Russell Terrier for the next few weeks, can and will bite and hold on a human, some would even say better than a few working pups we have come across over the years 😉

The process is the same, building confidence and trust is the name of the game. Time is slow, progress of building is slow, but when the right team is there with the experience and knowledge to truly transform their lives, we can keep everyone safe!

Mr. Hank, the adorable doodle! 🎉🐾 Welcome Mia and her amazing family to the Ridgeside K9 Charlottesville family! 🐾🎉

Ms. Mia, the Mini Golden-Doodle! Prior to coming to Ridgeside K9 Charlottesville, Mia’s family advised that they were dealing with a pretty serious case of aggression and reactivity, where everyone in the house had been bit multiple times, with the lasting scars to show for it. Mia was definitely a dog lacking any and all confidence, and took any uncontrolled action in her presence as a threat. Mia came to us for our aggression modification program, where the first week we had to wear protective equipment just to place a leash on her.

From biting her dad at the drop off, to biting us the first week any time got within a few feet, we were slowly able to build the trust with Mia, one rep and moment at a time. Although growth started slow, once we gained that trust, we were off to the races! Our focus for Ms. Mia was on slowing things down, establishing/maintaining boundaries, and growing confidence to help her excel. Mia’s family still has a long road ahead of them, but know they will do fantastic to ensure everyone’s success! We were so pleased with her growth during her time with us!
