EAR MITES!!!!!
Ear mites are surface mites that can affect cats, dogs, rabbits, and ferrets. They are most commonly found in the ear canals and are highly contagious to other animals they come in contact with.
The mite itself is usually unseen by the naked eye but most common symptoms include:
- very dark waxy or crusty debris
- lots of scratching or shaking of the ears
- hairloss on ears from continuous scratching
Diagnosis is typically straightforward and confirmed under a microscope. Treatment can vary but the most effective way to protect your pet is with their monthly flea, tick, and heartworm prevention.
