A little highlight video from Maizie’s day! We headed into town this morning, and I kept expectations low right from the start. It was clear she was feeling a bit overwhelmed, tucked tail, a little shaking, staying in her shell, so instead of pushing a strict, structured sessiom, I simply let her take the world in at her own pace.
This kind of thoughtful, low pressure exposure goes a long way. I let her roam, sniff, investigate the things that made her unsure, and you can see in the video how her confidence started to grow at the end. Her tail was still slightly tucked, but her head lifted, she had some curiosity, and she became so much more willing to explore. That’s a huge win in my book! Helping dogs realize that new environments don’t have to be scary, and adjusting the pace to what THAT dog needs, is exactly how we build long term confidence and resilience!
After our outing, she got some well deserved playtime with Kino and then hung out on place while I vacuumed the training room before her owners arrived for their lesson, she is such a good girl!
During their visit, we worked through heeling drills outside, practiced her recall, showed them her “stays,” and went over the e-collar work (first… on me! 😂)!
It was an awesome day, and we are definitely going to miss this sweet girl when she heads home next week. She has truly been a joy to have around! 🥹🫶🏼
