Four Leaf Equine/Livestock Massage and Therapy, CEMT, FMT, CBT Helping Owners and Animals Equine and Livestock massage therapy is for animals of all use. Why Massage Therapy? What is thermal imaging?

Do you notice a difference in behavior or flexibility even performance? Massage can help reduce these issues giving you an overall balanced animal whether it’s a horse or any other kind of livestock. Massage therapy can help to reduce muscle fatigue as well as spasms in return reducing injury to the animal. Massage can also improve circulation as well as inflammation to joints and muscles allowing

them to move more freely. Massage also releases endorphins into the body which are a natural pain reducer. Reasons for massage:
Resistance to work * Lack of forward impulsion
Resistance to saddling issues *Girthing or cold back problems
Change in mood or behavior * Lack of flexibility
Head Tossing *Unexplained lameness
How can you be sure you horse can and is benefiting from massage? Your horse should show a difference after the first initial massage. Depending on the horse and the situation its possible it could take a few treatments to get them up and moving properly again. The animals overall mood, flexibility, performance should start to show a difference after the first initial massage. Thermal imaging is use to find the issue are that the animal maybe experiencing rather than playing a guessing game to figure out exactly ware problem area is. Thermal imaging shows the object in an array of colors white being the hottest and generally the issue. These issues could be anything from saddle soreness, out of place bones, inflammation. Colic is not a disease, but rather a combination of signs that alert us to abdominal pain in the horse. Colic can range from mild to severe, but it should never be ignored, as many of the conditions that cause colic can become life threatening in a relatively short period of time. Only by quickly and accurately recognizing colic – and seeking qualified veterinary help – can the chance for recovery be maximized.

Virtually any horse is susceptible to colic, so management practices can play a key role in prevention. And although not every case is avoidable, the guidelines listed in the graphic can help you maximize your horse’s health and reduce the risk of colic.

As always, remember that every animal is different depending on age, breed and other health conditions, so be sure to work with your veterinarian to address any concerns specific to your situation!

UNDERSTANDING PROUD FLESH ✍️

Wounds on the bodies and limbs of our equine companions are exceptionally common. In particular, wounds on lower limbs can be especially difficult to manage. There is little extra skin in these areas, making large wounds difficult to close via suturing.

In addition, wounds on the lower legs are contaminated easily with bacteria since they are closer to the ground, bedding, and manure. The constant movement of an animal's legs as it walks, turns, and bears weight can also greatly impair healing, especially if the wound occurs over a joint. All of these factors can often halt the normal progression of the healing process and result in a chronic wound.

Persistent inflammation, along with infection, is a major contributor to exuberant granulation tissue (or proud flesh) formation in a wound. Proud flesh is not conducive to wound healing as it prevents the wound from epithelializing (the process of the skin cells covering the wound), and sometimes it can become so large that it appears to be a tumor, usually obliterating the original wound.

Prevention of proud flesh involves good wound management. For the best healing, wounds should be identified and treated quickly and properly — especially on the lower limbs. Consult your veterinarian about any wounds that appear deep or extensive, that lie over important structures (like joints and tendons), or that already show signs of proud flesh development. Rather than waste time and money in trials and errors that could delay your equid's healing, ask your veterinarian what products are best for your situation.

Just alittle FYI!!!!

DID YOU KNOW?:

Horses are biologically designed to eat 20 hours per day. Unlike deer, they are not browsers, they are grazers. Chewing produces saliva, which helps buffer stomach acids. On a pasture/hay diet a horse normally produces up to 10 gallons of saliva per day. When there is less for the horse to eat all day, less saliva is produced which translates into less buffering of the stomach acids. This can result in an increased imbalance of the bacteria in the stomach, and increased production of stomach acid, and thus the potential increase in gastric ulcers. If the stomach becomes more acidic than it should be, gas is produced by bacterial fermentation, and the result can be pain, colic, or even stomach wall rupture.

Equine kinesiology tape (EKT) is a type of elastic adhesive tape used to support and stabilize joints and muscles in horses. It is similar to kinesiology tape used in human sports medicine, but is designed specifically for equine anatomy and needs.

EKT can be used to:

- Provide support and stability to joints and muscles
- Enhance athletic performance
- Reduce pain and inflammation
- Improve circulation and reduce swelling
- Support rehabilitation from injury or surgery

It's important to note that EKT should only be applied by a trained professional, such as a veterinarian or equine therapist, as improper application can cause discomfort or even injury to the horse.

⭐️Equine kinesiology, also known as equine movement therapy, is a holistic approach to understanding and influencing the movement and behavior of horses. The importance of equine kinesiology lies in its ability to:

▪️Improve performance: By analyzing and optimizing movement patterns, equine kinesiology can enhance a horse's athletic ability, agility, and overall performance.

▪️Prevent injuries: Identifying and addressing movement imbalances and compensations can help prevent injuries and reduce the risk of lameness.

▪️Enhance rehabilitation: Equine kinesiology plays a crucial role in rehabilitation programs, helping horses recover from injuries or surgery by promoting proper movement and reducing the risk of re-injury.

▪️Improve horse-rider interaction: By understanding the horse's movement and behavior, riders can improve their communication, balance, and coordination, leading to a more harmonious and effective partnership.

▪️ Support overall well-being: Equine kinesiology considers the horse's physical, emotional, and mental well-being, promoting a holistic approach to horse care and management.

⭐️By understanding the intricacies of equine movement and behavior, equine kinesiology can significantly impact the health, performance, and quality of life for horses.
