Adoption Process
I wanted to make a post I could pin about our process and typical pricing.
Application Process
We only open applications when we have a current litter. Applications open around 4 weeks old. I will always post the day and time I will be posting the application.
Once posted, I review them in the order they are submitted. The first the be approved will get first choice of which babies they can reserve, after any hold backs are chosen.
Anyone approved after the babies have been all reserved, will have an option to be added to a waitlist for the next litter.
At 6 weeks we do our last photo shoot and we will start letting you reserve which babies you want to adopt. At this point a deposit is required which is 50% of your total adoption fee.
At 8 weeks the babies can go to new homes, and the other 50% is due at adoption time.
Adoption Fees
Here at Ritchea Rats we spend extra funds to get our rats tested for Streptobacillus moniliformis, the bacteria that causes rat bite fever. Along with extra testing, we also provide top quality food, bedding, environment, and enrichment for our rats. For us to continue providing the best for our lovely ratties, our price range for adoption is typically between $35-$50 per baby depending on the litter.
Guarantee
If you have any issues with your new rats or can no longer care for them, we ask you contact us and let us take them back. We temperament test before adopting out any babies, so your new babies should be great! But we really need to know if you have any issues at all and want to make sure you have the best experience!
As of now we have never had to take a baby back for behavioral reasons ❤️
