I'm excited to have Coal back in the working line up! We just started shedding a few weeks ago and he's taking to it well! Hopefully you'll see him in Open this spring

Neutered male

Suitable for a novice with a trainer or an intermediate handler. I'm going to be picky. He is a GREAT dog if handled appropriately.

Cons -
1. no kids, he is safe around kids supervised but shouldn't live with kids.
2. He's easily excitable and is best handled by a quiet, but assertive handler.
3. Injury as a puppy has caused arthritis in LF toe. Currently managed with maintaining appropriate weight and being kept in shape.

Pros -
1. Fully trained but needs miles.
2. Has helped with lambing, chute work, brace, etc.
3. Sweetest and goofiest dog you ever will meet.
4. Small! He's only about 32-34 lbs
5. Has worked flighty east coast sheep and mid western heavy sheep (not range ewes though).
6. I've never seen him not be able to move something.
7. Fantastic works ethic. Always ready to go!
8. Lives happily with dogs, cats, horse, bird, and small animals

I'll post some video links in the comments.

Happy to chat about him on the phone with anyone. PM for phone #.

Tripp, the ducks, and I went to the QA county 4H center last night to demonstrate herding instinct and border collies to the dog club! Thanks for having us!

Teal's a lovely little dog who needs miles and confidence. She's spending the next 30 days here to get a bit of both! It's been a. Werk and there's already a significant difference in her confidence level. I can't wait to see how far she goes!

Unfortunately Tate joined the countless other letters at our 2024 USBCHA National Sheepdog Finals Nursery run this year, but I'm so proud of that little munchkin.

So, so many dogs were struggling to move these lambs on this field - stalling out on the course, unable to hold or lift them at the top. I fully anticipated a grip at the top and that'd be that.

We stood at the post for several minutes waiting for our sheep to settle. One in particular broke back to set out twice. Not a great omen. I sent him left and was pleasently surprised that he didn't go super wide.

The sheep are right on the crest of a hill so you can't see your dog when they're behind the sheep. Tate stopped around 1 o'clock which was perfect for holding the pressure to set out. Since dogs were struggling to lift I had already decided I'd just let him come on however he liked and fix the line if we even got that far.

That little bugger lifted beautifully! No hesitation, shockingly nice pace and he was covering the set out pressure.

We got off line once but made the panel and turned the post. I could tell he was getting a bit frustrated with how heavy they were but he was listening.

Made the drive panels despite a strong draw to the right but as we tried to turn the cross drive one broke and Tate was going to stop it. From my angle I couldn't tell if he body slammed (which he's known for) or gripped but I heard a "thank you" and that was that.

Thrilled with the Potato though. I'd rather have letters, but a run I was proud of then numbers on a bad run anyways. I'm also feeling a bit more confident going in to his first open run next weekend at Edgeworth.

Thank you to our sponsors Marla Hast Humberston, Sarah Ruckelshaus, and my parents Tracy and Chuck Landis. I also can't thank Kathy Knox enough for the years of support, lessons, and learning opportunities! I definitely would not have been here without it!
