For this Giving Tuesday, we’ve created a Wish List for , Chicago’s public animal shelter, which is currently in crisis.

🐾 Last year, our amazing community collected 2,700 items for CACC! Let’s do it again!

I’m so thankful that I get to do what I love every day, be part of this amazing Chicago dog community, and most of all, have Bosly by my side. After everything she has been through this year, having her here with me is the greatest gift of all.

This Thanksgiving, I hope you take a moment to reflect on all the wonderful things in your life—no matter how imperfect it may feel right now. Especially if it doesn’t feel perfect.

Hold on to the good things. Acknowledge them. Celebrate them.

Why Dog Trainers Say “No” to Public Dog Parks...

1. Unpredictable Dog Behavior: You don’t know the other dogs or their backgrounds. They could have a history of aggression or pushy behavior, and you have no control over their interactions with your dog.

2. Excitement vs. Over-Arousal: Many people mistake over-arousal for excitement. Dog parks can be overstimulating for a lot of dogs, which doesn’t always lead to positive experiences. Remember, excitement doesn’t always mean happy!

3. Training for Neutrality: One of the main goals in training is neutrality. We want our dogs to be calm and neutral around other dogs, not over-aroused, which can lead to reactivity and issues like barking on walks.

4. Risk of Dog Fights: Dog parks see frequent scuffles and a fight can leave lasting effects on your dog, such as aggression, fearfulness, or general anxiety around other dogs.

5. Health Risks: Dog parks aren’t always sanitary, and they can be a breeding ground for illnesses. Not everyone is diligent about picking up after their dog.

Safer Alternatives to Dog Parks:

🚶🏼‍♀️Walk Near the Dog Park: Walking around the outside of a dog park can help your dog learn neutrality in a controlled way.

🦮 Practice Obedience & Loose Leash Walking: Work on basic commands and leash manners in a new setting.

🌳 Go for a Hike: Hiking offers a fresh environment, fewer dogs, and enrichment through sniffing and exploring.

Here’s what to expect:

3. Ask the Trainer: Get live Q&A and ask for any training tips and advice.
