FOSTER HOMES NEEDED!!!

Hunter and Heidi have found a foster home, but Copper and Nala (pic attached) are still in need of a place to land. There are several other hounds we'd love to be able to help, but we need foster homes in order to do so! Fostering can be tough, but it is so very rewarding. And who knows, you might just fall in love and decide to make things permanent!

Apparently today is National Basset Hound Day, so we can't let the day go by without a post to celebrate! This crew of AaRoooo alums is keeping a watchful (and hopeful) eye out for a delivery of extra treats to mark the occasion. 😍Or maybe they're just waiting for a squirrel to yell at. 😂

Temps are supposed to drop significantly here in the Chicago area (and most of the Midwest) overnight and the next few days will be bitterly cold. Please limit outdoor time for your hounds, keep potty breaks short, and keep an eye on paws and ears. Frostbite is no joke, and can happen quickly, especially with snow and ice on the ground! Sweaters or jackets and booties can be helpful, and a warm bed with blankies will be welcome once back inside. Or, if you're like AaRoooo alum June Bug, your own personal pillow fort can help keep you warm!

Now that our area is finally seeing some winter weather, it's a good time for a refresher on winter safety! It's a good idea to regularly check your fences and gates to make sure nothing has blown open in the wind and be aware of snow drifts along fence lines. Bassets may have short legs, but a well placed snow drift might just double as an escape ramp to follow an intriguing scent!

SOS!!

Hunter and Heidi are in need of a very special foster home. These two are incredibly sweet, smart, loving, playful young hounds, but here's the catch- they need help with housetraining. Hunter and Heidi spent their early years living outdoors in a run, so they're new to the comforts of house living, and don't quite understand that potty business needs to be done outside. They are crate trained and do well in crates and they showed great promise in a short term foster home, but they're back in boarding. With some consistency and positive reinforcement, H & H will blossom and make perfect companions, we're just sure of it, but it's going to take some work and dedication.

New to AaRoooo!!

Please welcome Copper (basset) and Nala (beagle/boxer mix). At 8 and 7, they've spent almost their whole lives together, and we'd really like to see them find a new forever together, as well. Copper and Nala both have a clean bill of health and are sweet, loving dogs that get along great with both people and other dogs.

If your basset could write a list, what would be on it? I'm pretty sure the AaRoooo alums in this admin's house would request treats, some new crinkly plush toys, more treats, maybe some new antlers or chew bones, and more treats. Did we mention the treats? 😂

Now that the days are short and the nights are long, AaRoooo alums Hugo (formerly Houston) and Miss Annie are spending less time playing and more time snoozing. Sometimes they even leave a little room for a human to snuggle into that chair with them. 😉

This Giving Tuesday, we wanted to share some of the faces that are the benefactors of your generosity. These pups are safe in foster homes, but aren't quite adoptable just yet.

Heidi and Hunter are a bonded pair and will need to stay together. They're working on their manners and housetraining these days while they get lots of love from their foster mama.

Leo is brand new to AaRoooo and settling in to his foster home, where he's also getting lots of love. He's a big sweet boy that just needs a neuter before he'll be available for adoption.
