Welcome back to the Little! Little came to the to treat Quadriparesis. After a tumble down the stairs, Little was unable to stand afterwards but we fit her with a help em' up harness and she recently was walking well on her own at her last rehab session! Treatment for Little includes PEMF and Laser therapy to decrease pain and soreness as well as promote healing. Manual therapy to decrease pain and improve joint mobility and a progressive exercise program along with at home tasks that Little's mom will do! Give it up for Little!

Today, Dr. Francisco's first dog, Ringo, turns 15! Help us wish him a very Happy Birthday! Today is a special day for Francisco and his wife as their pup, Ringo, turns 15! They were both in college when they adopted Ringo at the Western PA Humane Society, and he was about 2 years old at that time. He has been with them through their life journey as adults, from college to 'adulting', and now parenthood. As Francisco says "As it turned out, Ringo actually taught us one of the best lessons we have ever learned about raising pets…rescued dogs are just like any other dog looking for love and affection, along with their forever home. Their past is not their fault… but their future is in our hands. So give them a chance. Set expectations free. And be open for a life-changing experience."

Our Why

Canine rehabilitation is still a very unknown field, for both pet parents and veterinarians. Pet parents don’t even know that it exists, and veterinarians, although they likely have heard of it at this point, do not learn about it in veterinary school and don’t fully understand what we have to offer. Most people think of physical therapy as something we do after surgery to recover, which is not wrong, but there is much more to what we do, and senior dogs in particular can reap tremendous benefits from rehabilitation.

Here is a common scenario: our aging dog starts to show a decline in their ability to get around the house, go for walks, go up/down stairs, and overall is just not as energetic as they used to be. We take them to the veterinary clinic, they do radiographs, find arthritis in their joints, and prescribe some medication and tell you take it slow with your pup. Have you had that happen to you? Did you wonder at that time if there was anything else out there that could help your senior pup?

In just 9 months after opening TheK9PT I had achieved my dream of starting and growing a sustainable business in canine rehab. But I started to wonder: What else can I do? How can I serve senior dogs and pet parents at a level that has not been done before?

Along the journey of opening and running a business I realized that the traditional veterinary medicine model vastly under serves senior dogs, and I had the knowledge and skills necessary to help them and their parents. I became obsessed with educating about arthritis and senior dogs as much as I could. The reality is that arthritis is a normal aging process. We all go through it. Our pups go through it. But what makes a difference is how you manage it. I shifted my focus to help as many senior dogs as possible, both in Chicago with in-person treatments and everywhere else with my online services. Yes, medication and rest can be used in the very short-term to help them feel better, but it is not the long-term solution. We need to get them moving, help them build strength, and help them establish a regular exercise routine that involves more than just walks.
