Just one week later and M&M is looking and feeling much better after a good bath. He will be released for adoption soon though we are accepting pre apply adoption applications now.

Given his past, M&M is still very frightened by other dogs and does not trust them. This may be something we can change with time and more training, though as of right now he will need to be the only animal in the home.

He has been neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, and microchipped. He is amazing with people, kids included. He rides great in a car, walks well on a leash and knows basic tricks and commands. He LOVES toys, especially balls and sticks!

After a few weeks on his own, sweet M&M finally ended up in the right spot. He has been checked out by the veterinarian, and is taking some time to heal and decompress from all that he has gone through. At 10 months (estimated) and 55 pounds, he has a lot of love to give! He is handsome, young, smart, and so very gentle and loving!

He will be released for adoption soon though we are accepting pre apply adoption applications now.

This boy is said to be very sweet and loving, and even dog friendly though he has been attacked by the dogs in his neighborhood. The foster also has dogs who do not like him, and she knows that she can’t keep him safe for long, and was only trying to help him after his original owners abandoned him.

If there anyone interested in fostering this guy, we will gladly take him, which means we will provide all veterinary care/food/crate/supplies. There will be zero cost to you. He just needs a safe place.

Bethany, was returned this weekend and again finds herself looking for her perfect forever home. She is now our longest resident.

Bethany is a medium to high energy girl who would do best with a dog friend who likes to play just as much, or an active owner who will give her enough attention and exercise. She is a free spirit, and loves to trot around and chase balls and sticks!

We are not taking any new animals, unless they have a committed foster home offer. We will begin construction in October to fix extensive damage that occurred from a busted pipe flooding our basement in May. A construction zone is no place for extra animals. Now that the insurance and contractor are ready, we have to focus on fixing the issues we currently have.

This is a pre storm reminder, PLEASE make sure all microchip information is updated and current. Even if you don’t typically keep collars and ID tags on the pet, this is a good time to start! The winds will have the ability to knock things over, making loud noises that could startle your pet, please take all precautions to protect them in the event that they may end up frightened and not acting like themselves.

If someone messages us and says that a dog “Can’t be trusted around other animals or children” and “only has 2 days or will be taken to a shelter” I will unapologetically recommend an assessment from a trainer and/or a humane euthanasia.

There are happy, healthy, social, well behaved animals being euthanized at record breaking rates right now. We do not have the ability or resources to help them, let alone an aggressive dog. We agree, it may not be “fair”, but it is the blunt truth and I do not sugarcoat when it comes to safety.

If you have or are trying to help a dog like this, I do urge you to look at the individual dog a little closer. If it goes to a shelter and displays aggression, there is already a great chance that they will never leave the shelter alive. Or something much much worse could happen, they may leave the shelter (or be given away) and end up in a situation where they hurt a human and/or animals and will be euthanized anyway, or they could end up in the wrong hands and live a life of pure agony as a bait or fighting dog. There are a lot of outcomes that could be incredibly worse than going to sleep and not waking up.

While I agree that everything possible should be done to help them, we have to look at the whole picture. This is a topic we are messaged about almost daily, and if being honest looses followers, so be it, though I refuse to lie to you and tell you about this hypothetical farm or sanctuary that does not exist.

It’s 2024 and we are still euthanizing healthy, adoptable companion animals - the number one reason this is happening? People are not spaying and neutering their pets.

We often hear that vets are too expensive and people can’t afford it. We get it. But there is always a solution!

Let us help you! We have VERY LOW cost and sometimes free options, you just have to let us know you’re in need of help!

No more excuses, Walker County! This shelter team DOES NOT want to euthanize pets. It’s devastating, not a long term solution and a very preventable problem but it starts with you, our citizens, our community.

Disclaimer: we will help fix your feral cats however, we cannot come out and trap as we do not have the staff to do so. We also do not have traps to lend out because they don’t get returned or they get destroyed. You can purchase traps cheap at Tractor Supply and other places. Also, if you trap them to be fixed, you have to return them where they were trapped from. We will not relocate them. 🐈‍⬛

If you are NOT a Walker County resident but you need help with spay/neuter and your county shelter doesn’t offer resources, message us and we will do our best to find an organization in your area.

These two boys are paying the price for someone failing to have their mother and father spayed/neutered. Now they are here, and have obviously been a host for multiple parasites including intestinal worms that have them feeling very hungry, yet their little bellies bloat when they eat, even small amounts.

When puppies have worms to this extent, it can be deadly if not handled properly. This could have been prevented for about $3.

They also have hair loss and bite marks from fleas and ticks. They are now safe in a foster home, though their battle is just beginning.

Check out the new hair growth in just one week! Between having a dedicated foster family, and a knowledgeable veterinarian, Chonk is looking and feeling SO much better!
