🐭 GOOD NEWS: The skull of a state-threatened eastern harvest mouse was discovered in an owl pellet originating from Jackson County that was collected as part of our ongoing barn owl research.

The pellets are used for the secondary purpose of opportunistically surveying for small mammals across the state with collaborators from Ohio University.

Well now just call me chubby Luey♥️🐾!

I have one rescued feral, who has come a far way in her rehabilitation in my care, vetted, spayed, wormed and notched! I’m still searching for a barn/farm home to care for her as she keeps the barns free of rodents. She’s sociable yet prefers a hunter’s life. Hee safety on this earth is my concern, so I’m still picky… to place her with someone who appreciates her skillful hunting and species.

I do not care for or feed any outdoor cats at my place, wherever I live, ever! However as a professional pet sitter, I will petsit, and provide loving care for a well managed local colony in a caregivers absence. Food, shelter, vet care is essential to colony cats all over. Basic needs are my concern.

That said since the horrible Covid ordeal starting 3/2020…. I have noticed a high increase of dumped animals all over Ohio and a decrease of low cost,convenient vetting options.

Businesses closed, people lost income and domestic pets suffered greatly. There was even a pet food shortage during Covid! Many stock animals being euthanized probably caused some of that along with manufacturing loss and logistics. No farmers/truckers no food!

There is a great deal of suffering all over Ohio for sure…

I am slow to anger when it comes to neighbors who feed the outdoor cats, yet fail to neuter what they are now essentially encouraging breeding. I try to teach compassion and share the low cost options that I come across. Fewer and further between now, and the cost exhorbitant. I have even helped and found helpers for expense. Always go to your own network of family and friend’s first!

To anyone dumping any animals from one place to another, I cannot help, but to wish the same type of treatment and fate upon them by God.

Lousy dumpers= Black hearts imo.

I no longer belong to a rescue group, so I have no network, most are closing doors all over.

Look at North Carolina with floods, California fires, and freezing temps in the middle more recent.
People and animals are suffering…. People can seek help and advocates, but help for domestic pets falls short.

Love more! Stay kind, help where you can however you can. Be a good steward wherever you are.

**PHOTOS 1/24/2025 (In Foster Care: Adoption Pending 2/5/2025)** ... Fudd is a handsome 3-year old male Beagle mix who was brought to the HSOV on January 23, 2025 by the Washington County Ohio Dog Warden who picked him up on State Route 676 in the Vincent Ohio area. Fudd was accompanied by a younger Beagle mix named Elmer. Neither of the boys were wearing a collar, and they were not microchipped.

Perhaps Elmer and Fudd were on an adventure looking for "that wabbit" (Bugs Bunny) :)

Fudd has a white short smooth coat, a long tail, a tan spot on the top of his head, and an adorable face with expressive brown eyes, a liver-colored nose, a slender muzzle, and extra-large tan-and-white floppy ears which frame his beautiful face
