CHECK OUT THIS NEW AND EXCITING WAY TO FRAG SCOLYMIA AUSTRALIS
A few months ago reefbuilders put out an article about a โnewโ way to frag scolymia AUSTRALIS corals. The process seemed super easy, much easier than my prior methodology so I decided to take a swing at it myself!!! Check out the video below of the first one I tried it on. Whatโs so interesting about this process is that the mother and the baby donโt always match in regards to their color morph. Therefore you can get a new diversity of scollies out of one single specimen where my prior methods always yielded the same morph with this method u can get a completely new color morph. In other words if you are lucky u can frag a warpaint and get a master if you are lucky!! It appears as if the destiny of the color morph is completely random but I thought that was so cool I decided to give it a try!! Here are the rules you must follow below to copy this process.
1-Ideally you will start with a scolly with a large skeleton so that when u shave the bottom off you arenโt cutting into the existing healthy skeleton of the mother
2-shave off the bottom 1/4 inch or so of the skeleton
3-mount the scolly at an angle so that the new scolly will have a place to form as placing the scolly back down in the sand will inhibit a new scolly from being formed
4-pray to the higher power that you get a master scolly!
5-youโre done!! ITS THAT EASY!!

The second half to my feeding regimen!! I usually feed 3 to four times per week and only hold off if my phosphates are reading greater than .4. I test my phosphates once a week and I go from there. Comparing tropic marin turkish salt to tropic marin german saltvia ICP
Behold.
Below in the video I have posted are two Icp triton tests showing two separate batches of fresh mixed Tropic Marin salt, neither ever hit my tank
One batch is Turkish made and landed in the US sometime around April and is responsible for killing half of my sps and all of my clams.
The other batch is German made and was manufactured in 2020.
When I was having my issues in august of 2021 I sent out a fresh mixed batch of tropic to triton Icp to evaluate for contamination. When I discovered that this salt was extremely high in both manganese and iron I contacted the company and informed them of their misstep. They responded to me by saying that this was par for the course and has always been the case with all of their salt going back years. Well I did not believe them.
Therefore I had a friend of mine that buys this stuff by the pallet. He had German made tropic Marin manufactured all the way back in 2020. I had him ship me 15 gallons worth of the salt. I mixed up that salt and sent it for Icp analysis to test if tropic was lying to me or not. Well they were indeed lying. The tropic Marin made in turkey has an iron level 5 times higher than the historic concentration of iron and the Turkish salt has a concentration nearly 2.5 the concentration of manganese when you compare to the 2020.
Now that I have proof I have no idea what my next move is. This company caused me and my animals so much distress and they have yet to make an actual apology or own up to the situation. All they needed to do was send out an Icp and make an evaluation based off of historical comparison. Makes me sick.
