📣Abel and Liv have successfully locked!!📣

If all goes well we should be expecting puppies at the end of November! I have a few of you on my waiting list, but please reach out because I’m having trouble seeing old message threads!! I will go in order of interest. Liv usually has 5-6 puppies so I will hold spots for 2 females and 2 males to start!

I think it’s time for a long awaited update! For 6 months we have been rehabbing our beloved Abel. In January his collar died for the underground fence and he went on an adventure with Ruby (our cocker spaniel). Before they made it back home, they both unfortunately were hit by a car. In the end maybe, it was timing or a miracle but we were able to get to Abel quickly and rush him to Cornell hospital. He immediately underwent extensive care and surgery to repair his lungs and spine. Following a two week stay we were unsure if he’d ever regain movement of his rear legs…I can tell you, we were feeling hopeless. My guy came home, ego broken and limited mobility. For weeks we questioned if we had made the right decision for him. I knew I couldn’t give up and I also knew he’d do all he could to get back up. Following some home care he underwent two weeks of boot camp..intensive therapy and underwater aerobics, he was walking! His gate will never be the same, but we have him! He’s running (more of a little hop in the back end), but he’s playing and barking and loving in his little human siblings! In the end, my heart is grateful to have my boy! He knows his place in my heart and I will forever move mountains to make him as happy as possible!!

Now for another update…with the circumstances we have been unsure if he’d be able to ever produce his beautiful babies again. We have supportive veterinary services that ensured us that if he couldn’t on his own, they could AI.

Aspen had gone into heat mid May, I didn’t have much hope because Abel didn’t seem to have enough strength in his hind legs. We never witnessed a lock so just kind of said “it’s ok”, we have happy dogs and that’s enough.

The last few days Aspen seems a little more “round”. If she is bred we would expect puppies mid July. I will continue to update and hopefully can get in to our veterinary office for an X-ray in the coming weeks!
