When natural disasters strike, local shelters face the urgent challenge of rehoming dogs already in their care to make space for those displaced by emergencies, such as the recent fires in L.A. County, California. The goal is to provide immediate medical attention and, whenever possible, reunite these dogs with their original families.

Rescues banding together to accept animals from these areas helps improve the outcome for not only the existing dogs that were in shelters but also the influx of dogs arriving from these emergency zones.

If you'd like to support 's efforts in welcoming dogs from Southern California, we invite you to contribute to Henry's Fund. This account helps provide essential medical care for every dog who enters the rescue. Thank you for joining us to create a far-reaching ripple effect for animals❤️🌎🐾

We Support HB 2167!

The OSU Carlson College of Veterinary Medicine plays a vital role in training the next generation of veterinarians and protecting animal and public health across Oregon. HB 2167 will provide much-needed funding to address rural veterinary shortages, enhance diagnostic capabilities, and ensure our state remains prepared for emerging health threats.

We encourage our community to join us in supporting this critical bill. Let’s invest in the future of veterinary medicine and the health of Oregon’s animals, agriculture, and people!

Happy New Year’s Eve from WVAH!

As we celebrate the start of a new year, it’s important to help our pets stay calm and comfortable during the festivities. Fireworks can be stressful for animals, so here are three tips to help keep your pet relaxed tonight:

Take your pet out early: An early evening walk can help burn off some energy, making your pet feel more relaxed when you get home.

Stay indoors and keep away from windows: After your walk, try to stay indoors for the rest of the evening. Keep your pet in a quiet space away from windows and loud noises, stepping outside only for quick bathroom breaks.

Snuggle with your pet: Show your furry friend some extra affection. Snuggles and reassurance can help them feel safe and secure.

Calming medication: Be sure to talk with your veterinarian if your pet needs extra help during these stressful times.

Wishing you and your pets a safe and calm start to the new year.

Important Update for Pet Owners:

Starting January 1, 2025, prescriptions for controlled substances and gabapentin filled at retail or mail-order pharmacies for pets will now be reported to the Oregon Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP). This means these prescriptions will appear in the prescription history of the person listed on the pet’s prescription, clearly marked as "veterinary prescriptions."

Our in-house dispensing will NOT be impacted—veterinary hospitals are not required to report these prescriptions to the PDMP.

This change is part of a statewide effort to improve transparency and safety in managing prescription medications. If you have questions or concerns, feel free to ask us during your next visit or reach out to our team.

The Oregon Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) is a tool to help healthcare providers and pharmacists provide patients better care in managing their prescriptions.
