Rocco will be ready for a forever home around April 10th! He is a sweet, smart boy whose favorite things are food and being with his humans. He loves to just sit and be petted and cuddled but also loves to wrestle. He is about 12 pounds and guessing about 3 to 4 years old. He is okay with my cat and dogs with proper intro but his ideal home would be getting all the loving and attention for himself! If interested in Rocco, please fill out an adoption application at https://form.jotform.com/divaswish/divas-wish-adoption-application. When he is ready we will review the apps and choose the best fit for him.

Hello friends! As I’ve said many many times, I’m a big fail at keeping the page updated/current. Before the day goes haywire I wanted to share a few things 😊 We have adopted out, transferred to other rescues, spayed and neutered a LOT of animals this year. As well as providing financial assistance to pet owners for humane euthanasia when necessary. When, or if, I ever get caught up I’ll post pictures.
However, this story from this week I HAD TO take time to share. I took in 2 pot belly pigs last night. They needed a place to go and were 1000% out of options. 2 girls, they were in their 3 rd home, 2 years old, they ARE PETS. Why is she stressing they’re PETS you might ask? Because when this 3rd home got sick of them (for nothing other than being EXACTLY WHAT THEY ARE, pigs!) they called a processing plant to get rid of them. That’s right- a slaughterhouse. I’m dear friends with an employee there who called me, so you know what happened. 2 piggies landed here last night.
I can’t stress enough- DO NOT GET FARM ANIMALS FOR PETS IF YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING OR HOW TO CARE FOR THEM. There is NO SUCH THING AS A MINI PIG. Chickens aren’t house parrots and SHOULD NOT BE HOUSE PETS. Same with goats, cows, ponies, sheep, etc. I’ve seen it all. What I haven’t seen until now is people asking for pets to be accepted by a slaughterhouse for “euthanasia” and disposal. The girls are in the pictures below. As is a message between my friend and I. They will assumably be here a while until their FOREVER HAPPY EVER AFTER is found.
It seems as though so many people, animals, and other rescues are struggling, and in always need of donations. So, I hate to ask, but if you are able to help support the piggies, and our constant veterinary bills/spay/neuter efforts, please send a donation. One of our dearest friends, and co-founder of Diva’s Wish, Tammi Smith needs help. Many of you know Tammi was diagnosed with the most tragic of diseases, ALS, several years ago. Also known as Lou Gehrig disease. Tammi’s condition has rapidly deteriorated over the past year. Tammi is now completely immobile and unable to be left alone for any amount of time. Her husband John is a self-employed plumber and has been for the last 23 years. Tammi has an assistant provided to her 3 hours every morning, which is the ONLY time John can be away to work. When the assistant leaves John must be home with Tammi, as she can NOT be left alone whatsoever. This is providing to be extremely hard for any income to be generated. Bills are falling behind, by no fault of their own. This family is going to lose a wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and we will lose our friend. ALS is 100% fatal. We are asking for monetary donations to assist with their daily bills and needs. Please, if there is anything you can give, no amount is too small, as it all adds up. Checks can be mailed to me, Amber, or Barb Simonton, made out to John Smith. We will get checks to them immediately. If you know them personally, drop off in their mailbox on the porch.

Although we have not been as publicly active this year due to unforeseen, and unfortunate circumstances, we have still been busy in the community. We have spayed and neutered many many cats and dogs this year, and we have gotten many animals transferred to other reputable rescues. I'm still going friends, just behind the scenes I guess... We need support to continue our heartfelt mission in our community. Thank you & Happy Holidays to all! Amber

Want to join me in supporting a good cause? This I'm raising money for Diva's Wish and your contribution will make an impact, whether you donate $5 or $500. Every little bit helps. Thank you for your support. I've included information about Diva's Wish below.

One of my best friends, co-founder of Divas Wish rescue, Amber Hughes has had a tragedy and needs our help. Her husband passed away last week suddenly. This has been devastating to her and her children. She is going to have to figure out how to live financially while dealing with her and the young kids grief. She would never ask for help for herself that is why I am asking. Can we all come together and help Amber who has helped many many people and animals over the years?
Thank you, Tammi

Yesterday we removed the dogs from the property we posted about earlier this week. Everyone was vaccinated on site, tagged with color coded colors, and loaded. Yesterday was the first day of their new lives! Thank you to EVERYONE who donated towards this mission. We appreciate your support, as do the animals! It was a success! Xoxo -Amber

Hello friends! We hope everyone is doing well and enjoying warmer weather! We've been super busy on our end with animal welfare situations lately. So... I'm asking for your support. Friday we will be removing 12-15 dogs and puppies from rural Pike County. They're not being cared for or fed. I took 100 pounds of food to them yesterday until we can remove them Friday morning. Every dog and puppy will need to be vaccinated before we transfer to assisting rescues. That number of dogs is too much for our group to take on long term. If you can donate towards food or vet care please do. We also have a 25 cat spay/neuter clinic coming up and need funds for that as well.
As always, thank you for your continued support.

These 2 tiny lions are fully vetted, healthy, and need their very own people. The tabby fella had to be shaved due to severe matting. When his coat grown out it will be BEAUTIFUL. He's a young, long haired kitty.
The black and white is short haired guy. He has quite a story... he's healthy and well now, and that's what matters. Getting him well was costly for us, as he incured a $500.00 plus vet bill.
Our cat adoption fees are very reasonable for lifetime, loving homes.
Message for info if interested, and please share 😻 MEOW -Amber

ADOPTED AND LIVING HIS BEST LIFE!

This LARGE, INCREDIBLY HANDSOME kitty is Wille. He's such a fantastic cat! He loves life! He has many talents, he will even check his veterinarians heart, after she gave him a good exam! Willie is a laid back senior who needs a loving home. Sadly, his owners passed away. Wille is 14, current on all vetting and healthy. Please message us if you believe your home would be a good fit for out sweet boy!
Thanks! -Amber

Here's a LONG OVERDUE PSA...
First- let me be clear, this is Amber writing. This is not a nice post. The other wonderful women affiliated with my rescue need not catch any blame for my post.

I'm going to be very clear. Do NOT waste my time anymore asking for help if you are unwilling to help me, HELP YOU with YOUR animal "issues." I don't have time for the ridiculous bu****it to begin with.
ALL the kittens you have now...after I BEGGED to spay, and PAY for it, your cats? Figure it out. The dogs you just "can't deal with" figure it out. I had rescue for them but you no showed me, more than once.
When people call or reach out to me it doesn't just stop with me... I'm on the phone making vet appointments for said animals. Lining up rides for them to get to the vet and/or to another rescue. That other rescue makes space and/or finds a foster home. It's TIME consuming and exhausting. The WORST thing that then happens is the people calling, texting, emailing, etc. me don't follow thru.
Don't tell me how busy you are because you have a job, really? Ya don't say... walk in my shoes for a day. I guarantee I run circles around you and your "commitments."

2nd PSA- IT'S HUNTING SEASON. We live in a rural area. Deer hunting is a big deal for some... If you care about your dog at all CONTAIN IT! Loose dogs running/chasing said hunters deer don't generally have a good outcome. They WILL SHOOT YOUR DOGS. Keep your pets contained at home!

This being said, we are here to help! We put our HEART'S, TIME,(that we don't have enough of) and OWN MONEY, into all aspects of this organization. If you can't or don't respect that I ask that you take your "problems" elsewhere.

Tucker is looking for his perfect forever home. He is a year and a half, 60 pound Shepherd/Lab mix with lots of energy but can also be calm and snugly! He is housebroken, good on a leash, and loves car rides! His ideal home would have a fenced yard for playing fetch and running off some energy. He is okay with other pets, but is a 60 pound puppy and will chase and play and doesn't realize his size. Someone with larger breed experience is a plus! Fully vetted including neuter and microchip. If interested please fill out an adoption application @ https://form.jotform.com/divaswish/divas-wish-adoption-application

"He's afraid of X, so he must have been abused by/with X."

In rescue, a lot of dogs come into care with unknown histories. Many of these dogs present with specific or generalized fear and anxiety.

It can be easy - so, SO easy - to attach a story to their behaviour. In fact, it's becoming increasingly common for people to adopt dogs BECAUSE of their story. The more tragic, the better.

The problem with this is that it tends to freeze dogs into their neuroses. Their owner becomes so attached to the story, so emotionally invested, that they themselves cannot move past it. When the owner gets stuck, so does the dog.

Then the story becomes an excuse.

He's aggressive to the postman because one must have abused him.

He's leash reactive to other dogs because he was a 'bait dog'.

He runs from us when we grab the fly swat because someone has hit him with it.

In most cases, these behaviours are caused from a lack of experience in the critical period of socialization. Their inexperience can present itself as fear, anxiety, stress and aggression; mechanisms they develop over time to cope.

But what exactly caused their rescued dogs behaviour is irrelevant. It's a fools errand to try to figure it out; an addictive oxytocin-fueled quest to justify a lack of action.

He's afraid of men? Make men = good things. He runs from the fly swatter? Pick the damn thing up and throw the dog a handful of steak a few times. See what happens.

When we adopt a dog, we're making a commitment to BETTER their life. Holding on to their past is doing the opposite. Show them they're in a better place by overcoming their problems, not nurturing them.
