FYI our Clear Lake Fire Department will be conducting a tracing this weekend on the lake.

We want to inform the public that we will be conducting a training session on the lake in the downtown Aerator this Saturday, starting late morning and continuing into the afternoon. We want to make the public aware of this and that this is just training and not an active situation on the lake!

Let's take a trip down memory lane and revisit some cherished moments from our community's history! Each week, on Thursday, we are going to "throw it back" and share a piece of our community history with you.
Clear Lake was known as the Saratogo of the Midwest for good reason. Our natural environment offers us a playground for sport and recreation. When the water turns from summer soft to the frozen ice of winter, the games don't end. Some are now just beginning. Are you excited to lace up those skates and glide across the ice? For many years, Clear Lake cleared a spot in front of North Lakeview Drive for use as a skating rink. A few years a hockey rink was cleared out from City Beach. Even in the days before we had aerators it could be tricky to create a rink.
In 1952, Glen Severson's 7 1/2 ton International Harvester plunged through the 8-10 inch ice off City Beach. The driver, Allan Tarr, escaped safely but obviously got a cold dunking. The town gathered to watch the tractor get pulled out and eventually the hockey players could skate.
In 1958, the Dandy Lion reported that "Last year there was a hockey game almost every Sunday, weather permitting. The teams were made up of young men and town business people." Did you play or know someone who did?
Sharpen up those skates, soon real winter will arrive and our Parks & Recreation Department staff will layer by layer create our Marian Park rink.

Ah, the good old days. Full of romance. People lived simpler lives. Things weren't as complicated. Perhaps. This photo is from around 1910. It give us something to consider.
When you walk into your warm indoor bathroom, be happy you don't have to shovel a path to it after it snows. Especially in the dead of winter at 2 AM. By the way-they were not heated.
A couple of older guys were telling some young kids what good runners they were. They discovered this when the outhouse they tipped over, just a bit of mischief, had an unexpected man sitting in it. So sleep securely knowing your outhouse can't be easily tipped!

We’re thrilled to introduce the newest member of our Public Works Team, Kevin Hanson! 🌟 Kevin is the newest mechanic on our staff and brings a wealth of experience to the department. Prior to beginning his employment with the City, he was employed for 20 plus years by the Garner Hayfield Ventura School District.

"We are excited to have Kevin as part of the City of Clear Lake team as we feel he will be a great asset to our Public Works Staff," stated Jeremy Korenberg, Public Works Director.

🎄 REMINDER Curbside Christmas Tree Pickup 🎄
As a reminder, we’re offering Curbside Christmas Tree Pickup the week of January 6th to help make post-holiday clean-up easy for our residents.
All trees must be to the curb by 7:00 AM on Monday, January 6th. Please use the following guidelines for tree removal:
🌲 Trees must be free of decorations, wires, & lights.
🌲 DO NOT place trees inside plastic bags - these trees will not be collected.
🌲 Wreaths & evergreen garland will not be accepted.
You may also dispose of your Christmas tree Monday-Friday from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM at the Public Works Yard Waste Site located at 1419 2nd Ave S. The same guidelines apply for disposal at the Yard Waste Site.

Don't forget to renew your furry friend's license and keep them legally up-to-date! 🐕✨
🔑 Why renew?
It's the law! City Ordinance requires that all dogs over six months of age to be licensed with the City of Clear Lake.
Helps ensure your pup’s safety if they ever get lost🐾

Licenses may be purchased at City Hall, 15 N 6th Street. Proof of current rabies vaccination must be presented at the time of licensing. For licenses purchased before the March 31st deadline, the fee is $3.00. On and after April 1, a $1.00 penalty charge per month is added for each license.

The New Year brings us a time to reflect over the year just passed. One thing for sure-it passed in a rush! The Steve Miller Band sang in Fly Like an Eagle that "Time Keeps on slipping into the future." As we contemplate a whole new year ahead of us, some people like to make resolutions. This cartoon from the 1908 Clear Lake Mirror shows two men considering the choices on a menu board for 1909."The more things change, the more they stay the same." Alphonse Karr. Except for illuminates socks, what in the world are illuminates socks? Feel free to leave your guesses in a comment.

🎉 New Year's Eve & Day Office Hours Update 🎉

In observance of the New Year holiday, Clear Lake City Hall will close early today on New Year's Eve at 2:00 PM and will be closed all day tomorrow on New Year's Day.

Please plan accordingly and make any necessary arrangements before our office closure. We wish everyone a safe, happy, and prosperous New Year! 🎆

Please note that Garbage/Recycling pickup will be delayed one day this week due to the holiday. For example, if your normal pickup is on Wednesday, your pickup will be Thursday and if your normal pickup is on Thursday, it will be delayed until Friday.

For any urgent matters, please contact the Police Department non-emergent number at 357-2186.
