Specimen - Dendrobates leucomelas
Morph/locale - ‘standard’
Common names (included but not limited to) - Yellow Banded poison dart frog & Bumblebee poison dart frog
Location - South America. Mainly found in Venezuela but other collection points include Brazil, Columbia, and Guyana.

These frogs boast a moderate call volume and being one of the largest Dendrobates with a rough SVL of 3-5cm these bold and brightly colored frogs certainly are eye catching. The name leucomelas actually translates to “Black and White” and the reason being the holotype was preserved as a wet specimen. When dart frogs are preserved as wet specimen they tend to lose their coloration rather quickly. Although named “Black and White” we can clearly see a perfect example of Aposematic coloration.
