Final Plea Deadline January 21st 5pm (Ok with PRC Experienced Foster for 6-8 weeks. Adoption or Rescue only!)
Husk is 5 years old, neutered, 66lbs, & HW positive. Requesting final plea for Husk due to shutting down in the shelter environment. He does not walk on the leash and allows being carried everywhere. In the kennel, Husk spends the day laying and avoiding any interaction. The shelter environment is very overwhelming to him. He does allow handling from staff. PRC does not have the proper environment to work with Hukโs issues. If no commitment by deadline, humane euthanasia will be authorized.
Per Notes
01/06/25 16:50 Husk came to the outside kennel door and sniffed CRs hand. When shown the leash, he went inside. CR entered the inside kennel and leashed him in the back. He would not move and pulled and bit at the leash with leash pressure. He was muzzle wrapped and picked up and placed outside the kennel in the middle aisle, as he was too heavy to be carried to the yard. Once set down, he kept pulling to go back inside the kennel and biting at the leash. CR entered the kennel with him and offered treats, which he didn't eat, and let him smell the leash handle. He had tense posture and whale eye, so a hook was used to remove the leash.
12/27/24 17:24 Pet was laying inside kennel upon approach, got up after a minute and stayed at back of kennel no want to approach front, showed leash and pet walked away calmly to other side of kennel. Closed dividing door and tried to leash again, pet would move head low and away but eventually was able to loop leash. Did not want to walk, pulling away at slight leash pressure. DJ picked pet up after using a leash muzzle wrap and carried out to play yard. Out in yard did not engage or want to explore, stayed near yard entrance. Did tolerate petting from handler, eventually sitting with a soft open mouth while in yard. JS brought out two medium sized female dogs to greet, all tolerated being out together, but Husk made no move to engage past a short greeting, and both females came near but moved away when Husk looked towards them. JS was able to walk Husk back to kennel, he walked readily out of the yard and then hesitated at times once in front of other dog kennels, but did walk with slight leash pressure to guide him.
12/21/24 17:21 JS was able to leash Husk in the kennel after locking him in the outside portion. JS stepped in and loop Husk up. Husk did not move when JS applied pressure with the leash. Husk was very shut down. JS did a muzzle wrap and was able to carry Husk to the yard. In the yard, Husk displayed the same shut down body language. After some time, he started walking around. when it was time to go back, he started to avoid JS and then shut down once JS applied pressure on the leash. carried back to the kennel and unleash.
12/20/24 12:31Patient scheduled for routine neuter procedure. Upon approach, patient lowered body to floor. Patient was on outside part of kennel and surrounding dogs were barking quite loudly; however, I could still appreciate the patient growling. Patient whale eyed at the sight of the leash but with slow movement allowed me to place the leash around his head. I tightened the leash and pulled gently on the lead to encourage him to walk. Patient would not budge from crouched position, vocalized at leash, bit at leash, and attempted to gator roll. I dropped the leash and since the patient appears to be a sought-after dog due to breed, hair length, etc., I decided to proceed with the neuter. I walked back to VS, leaving him in the kennel with the leash and asked KV for assistance. She picked up his leash as he had not moved from his position, and I opened the guillotine door. I slowly lowered myself to the floor with KV in control of his head with the leash and quickly poked the sedative into his rear right muscle on his hind right leg. He was startled but did not react. We left him in the kennel and let the ACA in C kennel as well as wellness know that he was sedated. I walked back a few minutes later and he was still alert. I gave him another half dose of sedative and he fell asleep a few minutes later. He was placed in a wheelbarrow under sedation and brought to VS.
12/18/24 Finder reported that the dog did not like his other dogs at home. For intake and vaccines animal allowed all handling, although animal would not walk on leash.
