Congrats to Ken Bain and his boys Apollo and Puma for receiving their Human Remains Detection Certification this week! Apollo is a Cutty son! Love seeing so many of his offspring doing SAR work. Waiting on OFA results from Grand Central Asians “Kaan” and assuming hips and elbows are normal he will be bred this winter to Declan Farms Kaya. Kaan is embark clear but CARRIER for DM. DM is actually something we have seen in our breed when health testing but from many long term breeders, even “affected” dogs don’t ever show signs and no one has seen a dog to ever exhibit symptoms. Regardless, I’ve always been a breeder that likes to minimize risk. Kaya is OFA “Good” on hips and “normal” elbows. Embark CLEAR for all. Feel free to reach out with any questions you have.

Both parents are full time LGDs and from working lines. Both are 100% safe with sheep, goats (been through multiple kidding seasons), sheep (been through multiple lambing seasons), poultry (chickens, ducks, guineas, and geese, and cattle and have had one calf born on the farm. We’ve had zero losses since adding them. They are great with people we introduce them to. Not strangers. They are great with our herding dogs (except Kaan and Cutty our older male that is also intact). Kaan is fine with all the female border collies and has another intact male Central Asian Shepherd that works with him. It’s just Cutty.

Please keep in mind CAS are rarely a starter breed if you don’t have a good amount of dedication and experience training working dogs. We, as breeders, do have puppy contracts that protect the seller and buyer. Including health guarantees, buy back clause if the buyer can’t keep the dog for any reason, provide proof of health testing on parents, and provide a lifetime of training support and mentorship.

Declan Farms Man of God “Gabriel” at 6 months. Really looking forward to seeing him matured a bit. He’s super athletic, keeps up with the big dogs, and is the easiest I’ve trained with stock “knock on wood”.

For those of you unfamiliar with Central Asian Shepherds, they are an ancient livestock guardian breed that protected nomadic shepherds, their flocks, and their property. They were bred most of that time through natural selection. The breed can thrive in nearly any climate because they physically evolved from traveling long distances through desserts and high mountains with their shepherds and flocks. They have the courage to take on any predator or foe but also are intuitive enough to know a friend from foe. There are pet breeders popping up all over the country right now and there are only a handful of reputable working dog breeders. Please do your research.

This post is for those interested in keeping up with Rafter W Cutty and his future offspring. Cutty’s sire, Hardrock Neal owned by Brian Cash, is an Open level herding dog. He was in the Top 10 at the USBCHA National Sheepdog Finals in 2019 and qualified for the 2020 USBCHA National Sheepdog Finals but sadly they were cancelled due to the pandemic. Cutty’s dam, Rafter W Rook owned by Cyndy Douan, is an accomplished DockDogs big air competitor and held a top 10 spot in 2019. Cutty has several full siblings who compete worldwide in agility, frisbee, dock diving, and much more including a full sibling that is a working SAR dog (Wilderness Live Find). Athletic, intelligent, biddable, and moderate. 19” at withers and just under 40 lbs.. He also has two offspring getting SAR certifications and one that is actually out working. There are a few that are just starting their agility careers as well. Look through the photos of the page and you can find his full health results and OFAs.

Again, results are in the photos. We do reserve the right to breed to only approved bi***es. Health, structure, and correct temperament are just some of the things we look at when selecting bi***es to breed to him. Balance between the two dogs faults and virtues. How do they compliment each other to make a better dog. Do they work? What kind of conditions will the dams be in during pregnancy, through whelping, and on into the pups new homes? We as breeders are responsible for every dog we breed and ever puppy produced by that breeding. Transparency, honesty, and trust is a two way street. I know my dog, I know his worth, I know what he is bringing to programs. I also know the types of bi***es that will bring out the best results when bred to him. So please when you are inquiring about using him, please share the same information with us.

Also, we don’t breed sport dog crosses. We are breed preservationists. We dont look down on people that do that, it’s just not our program and doesn’t fit in the preservation mind set we have that is a very important part of our very small program. We don’t think every dog needs to be bred. I’m sure Muffy is just a wonderful pet and was able to get some titles through a lot of training and time but is muffy keen on stock? She should be. This is not to say we only breed to dogs actively competing in herding we realize these dogs excel at many things but we do want to continue to breed herding dogs.

We stand behind everything we do. We are a lifetime of support for these pups. And we will always host you to come visit, work sheep or cattle, see Cutty work. We treat everyone like family that visits the farm. Just give us a few weeks heads up in case we have to plan around someone’s schedules.

Welcome to Bedgood Heritage Farm Working Dogs! Each week we will introduce you to one of our working dogs. Tell you about them, their temperaments, work ethic, and any other fun facts we can share. We will also share their DNA and OFA testing. We will post stories, photos, accomplishments, litter announcements, etc. We aren’t professional dog breeders but we’ve owned and bred purpose bred dogs ethically for nearly 20 years. We are professional farmers that raise lamb, pork, fowl, beef, and dairy goats. For that we have to have dogs that fit in our operation both for moving livestock and for guarding livestock.
