The ASPCA estimates that around 3.3 million dogs enter U.S. animal shelters each year. Many of these animals are victims of circumstances like divorce, moving, the death of an owner, or abuse or neglect. Adopting a dog from a shelter can improve your life and save the life of an animal.

A bit late but I’ve been winding down from all of the excitement from this year’s Professional Pet Sitter Conference in Niagara Falls, NY. I learned so much and met great people! It is estimated that more than 300 dogs took part in the search, rescue and recovery efforts at ground zero in the aftermath of 9/11. In addition to search and rescue dogs, therapy dogs were also brought in to provide much-needed comfort to first responders.

Today on the anniversary of 9/11, we pause to remember our heroes—both human and canine.
