Any not claimed by the Dec 14th Christmas Barn Event will be available on site during the celebrations!

All proceeds go straight to supporting and feeding our rescue horses. Thank you all for your unwavering dedication!

Timeliness cleanse. We had the wonderful opportunity to ride the Lake Michigan shoreline and sand dunes yesterday with tons of horse friends. Jane rode Inizio, and Micaiah rode her mare Bea.
The scenery was stunning, the sky beautiful, and experiencing it all on horseback was cathartic and soul soothing.

Update on Brazen.

Brazen is a Navajo Nation born shelter transfer from Horse Plus back in September.

First picture is a couple days after he arrived and the second is today. It has been so much fun watching him grow. He has an amazing and funny personality😁

Update on Stella!
It is with profound sadness that we share the news of Stella's passing last night due to complications following her C-section. Fortunately, her six puppies are doing well and are currently in the care of a foster home, where they are being bottle-fed. This loss was entirely preventable with appropriate medical attention. We have now mourned the loss of Pippi Longstocking, Stella, and four of her puppies.
We acknowledge that these challenges are part of the rescue process, but the circumstances surrounding this tragedy highlight the need for improved veterinary care and owner responsibility!!!!
Attached are pictures of Stella's puppies. We will wait to name them until we can identify their genders.

Stella Had her puppies!
On October 18, 2024, Stella was one of eight dogs surrendered to us following a law enforcement seizure. Six of the eight were pregnant, and Stella was so far along that we anticipated she would give birth within days of her arrival at the shelter. Unfortunately, she has seemed quite distressed over the past eleven days, only leaving her bed when Jane entered the barn.
Yesterday, Stella was urgently taken to our veterinary office for an emergency cesarean section. The veterinarians successfully delivered ten puppies; however, we are saddened to report that four of them did not survive. Our hearts ache for Stella during this difficult time.
The recent loss of Pippi Longstocking, along with the passing of four puppies, has been particularly difficult for Jane, Dawn, and the dedicated volunteers who have cared for Stella over the past few weeks. Our veterinary expenses have significantly increased due to this situation. Any contributions to assist with our veterinary bills would be immensely appreciated. Thank you for your support...
We would also like to express our gratitude to everyone for the support received over the past few weeks. Your kind words have been greatly appreciated and have not gone unnoticed.

Pippi Longstocking Update
This morning, we received an update from the veterinarians at MSU regarding Pippi, and the news is not promising. Pippi's condition deteriorated overnight despite receiving fluids throughout the night. Unfortunately, she has not produced any urine, and the ultrasound results indicate a complete absence of fluid in her bladder, suggesting that her kidneys have entirely failed. Additionally, her overnight blood work revealed a further decline compared to yesterday. The veterinarians have assessed her chances of survival at only 20% and have recommended the Last Act of Kindness. After careful consideration, Jane and I have decided that this is the most compassionate choice for Pippi.
Rest in Peace Pippi Lockstocking.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone for their generous donations to support Pippi's medical care. We are currently awaiting the final bill from her stay at MSU, which we anticipate will range between $3,000 and $4,000. ❗️UPDATE ON SICK FILLY❗️

One week old Pippi is stable - for now. She will be in the hospital for 6 or 7 days and will be pan fed when she comes home. She has a guarded 60% chance of survival which may change if sepsis is in her joints, as she does have edema in her hocks and ankles. The first blood test couldn't read her renal count, so there is concern about kidney damage. Another, better test is running as we speak to see how high her count is. All ultrasound and xrays looked good except for the edema surrounding her joints.

At the end of the day, doctors figure unsanitary birthing conditions and dirty udders, and a complete lack of care and preparation for her birth caused it.

This DID NOT have to happen. Estimate for her care is now $6000 to $9000.

❗️❗️EMERGENCY HELP NEEDED ❗️❗️

We are on our way to MSU Vet with a week old filly that arrived with the law enforcement seizure last week. The baby is not doing well at all. Our vet has recommended we transfer her to be hospitalized.

We will update you as soon as we know anything. The estimate we were given was between $3000 - $7000. Please help us save this baby!
