Introducing Basil, a 10-month-old Shiba Inu mix who ended up at Duluth Animal Control before we stepped in to help her find a loving home. She’s currently working on foundational training with Black Onyx Dog Training LLC and will be available for adoption around 3/14.

Basil is potty trained, kennel trained, and gets along great with other dogs—she absolutely loves to play! While we’re unsure about cats, we believe she would do well with them. She’s sweet, playful, incredibly soft, and sure to bring plenty of smiles and laughter into your life.

We’re now accepting applications and setting up meet-and-greets for her future family!

UPDATE: Because of the out pouring of support for Pablo, everything from his initial wish list has been purchased! A few additional items have been added to ensure that he'll continue to be the happiest pup.

Over the years, we've rescued many dogs, each with their own story, but some leave an unforgettable mark - Pablo is one of them. 💕

Pablo was rescued after suffering severe neglect, starvation, and in desperate need of medical care. On July 9, 2024, he officially became a PJ’s Rescue pup, where he began his journey of rehabilitation, weight gain, and heartworm treatment.

After six months of recovery, Pablo found his forever home was adopted on January 17, 2025. Sheryl, his adopter, has been an incredible dog mom, ensuring he has the happiest, healthiest life possible. However, a recent CT scan brought heartbreaking news - Pablo has cancer that has spread throughout his body, and treatment is no longer an option.

Now, our goal is to give Pablo as many comfortable, love-filled, treat-filled days as possible. To help make that happen, we’ve created Pablo’s Wishlist, where every item purchased will go directly to him. 🩵

This week, PJ’s Rescue took in five dogs from the City of Duluth Animal Control. Some were surrendered by their owners, while others were found as strays and never reclaimed.

We work closely with Duluth Animal Control to rescue dogs and place them in loving foster homes where they can thrive. Our foster families help us learn more about each dog, ensuring they’re placed in the best homes for adoption!

Meet Mr. Harvey Specter & Mr. Mike Ross!

These handsome boys are about 14 weeks old and full of potential! We are told their mom is a beautiful 55-60 lb Shepherd/Husky mix, while their dad is a big, lovable 90 lb Lab/Hound mix—think big ears and a squishy face!

Both pups are as sweet as can be and absolutely love kids! They may start off a little shy, but after just a few days, their playful puppy personalities shine through.

They’re working hard on potty training and crate training, and with consistency, they’ll be pros in no time! If you’re looking for a loving, loyal companion, either one of these boys could be the perfect match!

Meet Pineapple! This adorable young pup is believed to be a Boston Terrier mix. She’s a smart and affectionate little girl who is already doing great with potty training! While she was a bit hesitant about going outside in the cold, she’s getting braver every day.

Pineapple loves playing with other dogs and has a fun, spunky personality. She can be a bit vocal when she doesn’t get her way, but that just adds to her charm! She’s still working on loving her kennel, but she sleeps through the night like a champ.

Introducing Our “Flavor of the Day” Litter!

These six adorable pups were found abandoned in a box on the side of the road, but despite their rough start, they are overflowing with love and affection. While we can only guess their breed mix, one thing is certain—they are as sweet as their names!

Each puppy has a wonderful temperament, is doing well with potty and kennel training, and loves to play, cuddle, and explore. They are fairly small for their suspected age, making them the perfect little companions. We are guessing that they will be small to medium size at full grown.

Meet Mr. Husky – A Survivor Ready for His Forever Home

In many cultures, dogs are seen as status symbols, and strangely, in warm climates like the Middle East and Mexico, Huskies seem to be a popular—yet often short-lived—choice. Time and again, we’ve seen these stunning dogs purchased for their beauty, only to be discarded when the reality of their care sets in.

Mr. Husky is not the first Husky we’ve rescued from the streets of Tijuana, but he was perhaps the youngest—and in the most heartbreaking condition. At an age when most puppies are just settling into their new homes, Mr. Husky had already been bought, abandoned, and left to fend for himself. He wasn’t built for street life. Starving and skeletal, his once-lustrous coat was dull and matted, his body riddled with parasites, and his spirit utterly crushed. The bright, joyful energy that defines a young Husky had been replaced by sadness and defeat.

At first, he was so weak that he required veterinary infusions just to stabilize. After surviving on scraps and garbage, he had to be reminded how to eat real food again. Slowly, we nursed him back to health—his parasites were treated, his coat was carefully brushed out, and with every day, the light returned to his eyes.

Now, in his foster home, Mr. Husky has blossomed into the dog he was always meant to be. As a true Husky, he is curious, intelligent, and full of playful energy. He is affectionate and friendly with everyone he meets, and his heart overflows with gratitude. After everything he’s been through, he knows how lucky he is—and he shows it in every wag of his tail.

Mr. Husky’s Ideal Home:
• No cats or small dogs (his prey drive is too high).
• A playful canine companion would be ideal!
• He is crate trained and doing well with house training on a schedule.

Meet Kirbie!

Kirbie is the ultimate snuggle bug who will warm your heart in an instant! This sweet, affectionate girl is full of love and ready to be your loyal companion.

At just 22 lbs, Kirbie is a petite 1-year-old Heeler with a big personality. She’s both potty trained and kennel trained, and thanks to her time with Black Onyx Dog Training, she has learned some great manners. However, she’s still working on keeping all four paws on the ground—when she’s excited, she can’t help but bounce like a little kangaroo!

Kirbie is fantastic with other dogs and loves to play. While she hasn’t met a cat in our care, her foster believes she’d do just fine. She has also been wonderful with kids!

This energetic girl would love an active home where she can get the mental and physical stimulation she needs. Whether it’s hiking, training, or even dog sports like agility, Kirbie is ready for adventure!
