CRLNE&NY offer condolences to our treasurer Grace and her family. Grace lost 2 dogs in the last week. Losing one dog is difficult enough, but losing a second so closely is just heartwrenching. The first was her collie Dulce, and the other was a standard poodle Charlie. Charlie was bonded to Dulce and missing his best bud. We hope it gives Grace some small comfort that they are now together again at the bridge.

We are sharing the update of Sandy who was to have an ear ablation yesterday. He did not require the ablation after all which is outstanding news. A couple of the pics are hard to look at it as a warning. We were happy to provide a donation for his surgery and look forward to seeing his continued recovery. Go, Sandy!

CRLNE&NY offers heartfelt sympathy to our member Sally Stone for the passing of her much loved Scout. Scout was not a collie, but it makes no difference. Her bag of tricks rivaled any of the many generations of Lassie. Scout was nearly 13, and for those that follow Sally on FB, we were entertained often by Scout’s antics. She would often get loose ‘scouting’ for food, and it didn’t matter if it was fresh or not. She opened the refrigerator, oven door, toaster oven, cabinets and the front and back doors. The list continues including taking dishes out of the sink. Mind you, she never broke a dish or glass. How is that even possible?! We will miss Sally’s stories about her. Fly high, girl. You have earned your wings.

The Collie Club of America National Specialty show is being held in Syracuse NY this year from April 9th through the 12th at the NYS Fairgrounds. This is an impressive show for collie lovers with rough and smooth collies of all colors. CRLNE&NY hope to have a booth at the show and are seeking volunteers to help us with the table. If you are able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

Please join us in rooting for Sandy who has his ear ablation tomorrow. His journey has been a tough one. He was hit by a car and found by the side of the road. He lost a leg and part of his ear as a result.

More pics of Axel!

Meet Axel, everybody! Axel is an approximately one year old, 45 lb. male Rough Collie. He is mostly blind, and has trace white factoring. He gets around well (it took him only a few minutes to 'map out' the foster director's TV room), and in doing zoomies outdoors in bright lighting, Axel avoids trees, so there's possibly some ability to see light/dark. He is an absolute snuggle bug, and loves hugs and kisses. Axel is super eager to please - he learned 'sit' in five minutes! He has been fine around cats, and loves playing with the foster director's collie (see video, he is the smaller of the two collies). A visit to the vet on Saturday showed him to be in excellent health, except for his vision. CRLNENY is pursuing a consult with a veterinary ophthalmologist.

Axel is going to need a special furever home due to his disability. Optimal home would be a walk-out exit to a fenced backyard, without stairs. Given his blindness, a household with understanding middle school-age children or above would be best. If you think YOU could be his permanent foster*, email [email protected]

* a 'permanent foster' is one where CRLNENY remains responsible for the collie's expenses: medical, food, etc.

CRLNE & NY would like to thank local students, Savannah, Bridgette and Ashley, from Cheshire CT who helped with organizing our merchandise and supplies today at our storage unit. They were terrific, and we are very appreciative!

At the risk of embarrassing one of our long-time fosters Tracey Farquhar - we offer healing wishes to her as she recovers from a sprain. She took a fall while helping a new CRLNE rescue this weekend who happens to be blind. We weren’t sure how much blindness he had at the time of his pick-up, but it appears he is fully blind. He is now in a different foster home so Tracey can heal. He will not be adoptable for some time while being evaluated and will likely require a home without stairs.

Heal quickly, Tracey!

We share the story of this handsome boy with you that came to our attention. Sandy was hit by a car and left suffering by the side of the road with grave injuries. He lost a leg and had severe damage to his ear. You can read of his story in Freedom Collie Rescue’s page. CRLNE sent a donation to assist with his medical bills. We have been the recipients of generous contributions by other rescues in the past particularly when we rescued the NY19 with half of them having heartworm. It was our turn to pay it forward. We are rooting for Sandy who faces more surgery at the end of this month. Just look at his handsome face!

We still have some 2025 calendars left that can be found on our website. We also have new logo decals for purchase. We dropped the 'eastern' from New York. We want the whole state! There are collies that need us there.

Please go to our website at CRLNE.org.

CONTEST CLOSED! We have a winner.

We are a bit late kicking off our annual contest to guess the number of collies adopted during the year 2024. The first person to guess accurately will be the winner of this beautiful glossy porcelain collie along with some other collie merchandise to create a congratulatory package for the winner. The collie is 5.5 inches long and 4 inches in height and is in perfect condition. Let the game begin!

Safe travels tomorrow to those that are transporting 2 puppies into rescue from different states. One of them is at least partially blind. Many thanks go out to the drivers, fosters and to the intake/foster team.
