Happy Frog Friday! Today we have Jumpin Jack Flash avoiding his oh-so nutritious black soldier fly feeder grubs and Cle Cle the tomato frog, who just came out of hiding for what feels like the first time in forever.

Due to the unusually cold weather conditions, we have been experiencing significant shipping delays that are beyond our control. While we deeply regret this situation, know that we are committed to ensuring your satisfaction and getting your larvae to you in good condition!

To combat these delays which may exceed the threshold for the larvae’s survival, we will be holding all packages at the post office until further notice. Make sure to keep an eye on your tracking number so you know when to pick up your package. Should your larvae accidentally be delivered to your mailbox, please retrieve them immediately.

Even with these precautions, accidents happen, so all orders are elligible for our live delivery guarantee. Contact us within 24 hours of delivery and inform us of the condition of your larvae upon arrival to qualify.

The tomato frog (Dyscophus antongilii) is a Madagascar native. Unlike the tomatoes they resemble, you should not eat or lick tomato frogs. They secrete a very sticky mucus to deter predators which may cause allergic reactions in humans.

Tomato Frog Facts:

• The inflated body looks like a big, ripe tomato, hence the name. The frogs do this as a defense mechanism.
• Tomato frog can reach 2.5 to 4” in.
• Females are up to three times bigger than males.
• They are terrestrial.
• They are poor swimmers and can even drown.
• They are nocturnal.
• They are carnivorous ambush predators.
• Females can lay 1,000 eggs or more.
• They may live over 10 years.
• Females are usually more brightly colored, with males being dull orange or brownish yellow.
• Two other species, Dyscophus guineti and D. insularis, are also known as tomato frogs.

Everyone say hello to Cle Cle! Our president recently adopted this tomato frog that needed a new home. He likes to spend his time basking in his water dish or munching on Cravy Crawlers black soldier fly larvae. Swipe to the last slide to see what Cle Cle’s enclosure looked like before renovations.
