Get a head start on preparing for Hippology contests!

It's back! The 2025 Hippology Academy kicks off on February 9. Topics for this year include first aid and vital signs, pre-purchase exams, viral diseases, behavior, metabolic issues, and forage selection. Content for each topic includes practice tests, slides, and digital learning stations in addition to twice weekly lectures.
There are three enrollment levels to choose from:
1. Bronze: All content listed above, accessible until August 31, 2025.
2. Sliver: Everything included in Bronze, plus can ask teacher questions, participate in discussion board, and have access to course material until November 30, 2025.
3. Gold: Everything included in Silver, plus opportunity to participate in live virtual office hours with instructor and access to course material until December 31, 2025.

As we brace for the upcoming cold front bringing frigid temperatures and freezing moisture, it's important to prepare our horses. ❄️🐴 Here are some essential Dos and Don'ts to keep your horses safe and comfortable during the cold snap:

❌Do NOT change their diet by changing hay, adding grain, or giving a bran mash. You will only be adding digestive upset to the cold stress!
✔️Do feed more of what you are feeding, especially HAY. Provide at least 2% of your horse's body weight in hay during a cold front.
✔️Do provide wind breaks and protection from moisture
❌Do not blanket if you haven't been already and if your horse has an adequate winter coat.
✔️Do make sure water free of ice is available. If you can warm the water to room temperature, even better!
✔️Do provide more protective measures for weak and/or old horses

Traveling with your horse? 🐴 Make sure to close the trailer windows! 🚛 Think about all the debris, bugs, and rocks that hit your windshield on the highway. Those same things can hit your horse's eyes and cause serious damage. Keep your horse safe on the road!
