๐๐๐ข๐ฅ ๐ญ๐ซ๐ข๐ฆ๐ฌ are one of my most popular mobile pet services. Itโs therefore important to me that I add value to what I do and itโs so greatly appreciated when my clients trust me to perform them! I also greatly appreciate when and ONLY IF theyโre able to help during the process ๐

๐ท The natural speed at which their nails grow.
๐ท If and how often theyโre scheduled to be groomed.
๐ท As or before you begin noticingโฆ
โซ๏ธthe โclick-clackingโ sound on the floor.
โซ๏ธpain/discomfort when their nails contact your skin
โซ๏ธa slight curve or curl in the position of their nails
โซ๏ธyour pet struggling to maintain traction on smooth surfaces (may cause early onset of arthritis and/or injuries)
โซ๏ธscratches and damage to your furniture, carpet, and/or other possessions.
๐ท Their activity levelโฆ
โซ๏ธDo they go on frequent walks?
โซ๏ธDo they run around your property?
โซ๏ธDo they rest most of the day with little opportunity to grind their nails on certain surfaces? (e.g. concrete, asphalt, brick, pavement, dog scratch boards).
โซ๏ธAre they at risk of getting their nails caught, pulled, and injured?
๐ท Your personal and respected budget.
๐๐ฒ๐น๐ฝ๐ณ๐๐น ๐๐ถ๐ฝ๐:
๐ธBegin nail trims at an early age and frequently play with/touch their paws so theyโre hopefully less sensitive as they age.
๐ธPrior to nail trims, help your pets exert some energy. Usually the less rambunctious, the more compliant! Lol. Calming treats may help, too.
๐ธTreats (especially xylitol-free peanut butter) can create a helpful distraction during nail trims. I highly recommend lick pads!
๐ธDo not have your outdoor or indoor/outdoor catsโ nails trimmed. They need to protect themselves from other cats and predators.
๐ธWhile trimming nails yourself, keep an eye out for whatโs called the โtarget.โ It is circle-like and indicates where the quick (blood supply) begins. Do not trim past this. If you do, itโs okay! It happens to the best of us, including myself, veterinarians, and other pet service professionals ๐ Apply your blood-clotting product (corn starch helps, too) and keep an eye out for any possible (normally unlikely) infection.
๐ธThe quicks grow with the nails. The longer the nails, the longer the quicks. The more you trim, the more the quicks recede!
๐ธMaintain a soft voice, encouraging words, and calm energy for your pets. They feed off of our energy so if weโre worked up, theyโll be worked up.
๐ธIf your pet is older, arthritic, and/or has any form of discomfort/injury, it is important to be as gentle during their nail trims as possible. I often prefer they lay on their sides.
๐ธAs much as I love alleviating your stress of having to take your pets in, some animals tolerate nail trims more at the vet clinic or groomerโs than they do in their own environment.
