🐾Did you know? 🐾
Mums (chrysanthemums) are beautiful flowers, but when consumed by pets, can lead to vomiting, hyper-salivation, diarrhea, incoordination, and dermatitis.

🐾🐾 Did you know...
Exposure to acorns in dogs is common in the autumn and winter months. The toxic ingredient is thought to be tannic acid, which can cause damage to the liver and kidneys. Signs include vomiting, diarrhea (with or without blood), abdominal pain, lack of appetite and lethargy. Ingested acorns can also cause an intestinal blockage.

I plan to have puppies after the first of the year. If you want to be on my waitlist let me know.
•Pet homes only on spay or neuter contract unless on a show contract.
•No shipping or pet nannies.

If you’re a reputable(in my opinion) breeder and have healthy, socialized Griffs (from health tested parents) looking for homes I’ll be happy to share your contact info with anyone not wanting to wait until spring for a Mystique fur baby. Please, get references when you’re buying a puppy and insist on a vet exam with f***l before it leaves the breeder!!
(I was contacted this week with another sad story about a sick, unsocialized puppy). 😢🤬

Thankful for my great doctors! At the pulmonologist now. Tests show because of GERD(acid reflux) I’m aspirating when I eat and drink. Achalasia Dysphagia (difficulty swallowing)
•Regurgitation of food and fluid after eating or during the night.
•Chest pain and/or pressure after eating.
•Chronic cough due to aspiration of food or fluid from the esophagus into the trachea (windpipe).
•Pneumonia due to aspiration of food or fluid from the esophagus into the trachea (windpipe).

It then grows a fungus in my lungs that causes me to have shortness of breath. Next step is a bronchoscopy to do Botox injections to relax the muscles in the esophagus. Wonder if I can get a bunch in my face too?!

‼️ No collars and no bedding like towels, quilts, rugs, etc that can be shredded or torn are used in my home. All it takes is one bad/horrific experience to change the way we do things! Mine was years ago when a blanket(in good condition) got loose stitching on a corner and got wrapped around a Griffs rear hock. She had struggled to escape and it got so tight that by the time I got home and saw it she was frantic, her leg was blue and she had chewed off part of a toe. Blood was splattered everywhere. Long story-short..cut off the fabric and raced to the vet. The leg recovered and she became a champion. If I even see a loose thread on their bedding I have flashbacks of that experience and the bedding is thrown away. And I absolutely hate those cheap dog beds with the cheap thin black bottoms!!

🎉 I haven’t shared anything on my health for a while and I’ve had some inquiries about how I’m doing…so here it is. After the hernia surgery where they pulled my stomach off the top of my lungs back down to where it belonged and tacked it down and closed the hernia I felt really really good! Was back to pool exercise and swimming and even some shopping. Then several months ago my breathing got worse again. Back to the doctors and after numerous tests, they could not find anything wrong other than a few things on my blood test that were too low. It got to the point where I was practically panting like a dog and could never get a deep breath, no matter what I did. In combination with my acid reflex I was coughing, almost nonstop too. So, I was ready to give up completely. Did my will for my dogs, my home, my possessions, etc., etc. Depression took over and I had my bottle of pills ready. It was just a matter of time. I’m a very firm believer in quality of life and being able to make my own decisions about end of life. If you choose to live in a nursing home or something similar more power to you. I’m not opposed to anyone doing that. It’s just not for me. I’ve lived alone for over 20 years with my dogs in the country and the thought of being that close to people 24/7 makes my skin crawl. So, my friend/neighbor decided to go to the doctor with me and tell her where I was at. My poor doctor was so frustrated that she couldn’t find the source of my problems. She said…last resort, this is the strongest antibiotic I can give you for your symptoms and I only prescribe it once or twice a year. It can cause a lot of problems with the kidneys. Tons of water. Which she knows I have a problem with anyways. I had already been on three different antibiotics in the last couple of months plus numerous inhalers and breathing treatments. Nothing helped. I didn’t hold out much hope but what did I have to lose? 48 hours later, I was able to take my first semi deep breath in several months! After the complete five day dose, I couldn’t believe the difference. I can choose to have a deep breath, I’m not panting, and I do have some energy. I’m able to speak a full sentence without gasping and I don’t feel like I’m going to pass out walking from one room to the next. So, I’m still alive and kicking and cussing and bitching too! 🤣 I didn’t cancel the appointment with pulmonology so we’ll see what they have to say on the 16th. Next will be cataract surgery. Then I need my bad knee replaced. Having my worst knee replaced was very difficult because I had to go off the Humira that I take every two weeks for a rheumatoid arthritis. Since it’s an immune suppressant drug I had to be off at four a month before surgery, which means I had a major flareup just before surgery. And I couldn’t go back on it for two weeks after surgery and it takes up to a couple of months to be affective. So recovery was hellish for me. I won’t do it that way again. I’ve already talked to my rheumatologist and told him two weeks before and two weeks after surgery and that’s it. No negotiations. He said your knee surgery may not be as successful because of that, but he totally understood my reasoning. You know me I’ll post updates. 🤣

~Rehoming Retired Show Dogs~
Every once in a while I run across someone who is condemning any breeder who rehomes adult dogs, after having finished them (put a conformation or working title on them) or used them in their breeding program. The nature of that condemnation always seems to be about the same as is used for anyone who rehomes an animal: “You had them for years, and now you’re throwing them away.”
It always bemuses me, because those same people want a breeder who breeds once every other year and has a limited number of dogs in their home. They also want someone who is ‘striving to better the breed’, has a good reputation, and shows and titles the dogs they breed. Okay, great. Except that doesn’t work. Even if you start with two bi***es and use a stud dog or dogs, and keep only a single puppy per litter (or even every other litter) you have somewhere between 7 within 5 years (don’t forget the original two!). Then what? What are your options? Do you keep breeding dogs who are now 7+ years old? Wouldn’t help with the ‘bettering the breed’ aspect, and it wouldn’t be fair for the senior dogs. Do you keep the older dogs and keep the program moving with new ones, and just let your numbers explode by keeping a puppy or two every year? How much attention is that retired dog now getting in a houseful of puppies and dogs being shown (with travel and expense associated with both)? Do you *stop* breeding? How far are you going to get over a matter of 5 or 6 litters, or a few generations? I have a retired show dog. I have a part-time retired show and current stud dog. Their breeder didn’t throw them away. Their breeder put them in a home where they would get time, attention, and a chance to be normal dogs, in a normal household. Now, I’m not saying show dogs aren’t pets -at all- but at some point the dogs are in fact better off somewhere, where they get the time, energy, attention, focus, and aren’t part of a huge pack. And the breeders? They get to go on breeding, which is actually what we want them to be doing for breeds we love. The implication that the breeders don’t love their dogs, don’t cry, don’t miss them, is baloney. I’m not saying all do, of course, but the ones I’ve dealt with sure as heck haven’t forgotten the dogs they rehomed. They’ve just recognized that for the good for their breeding program *and* the good of the individual dogs they needed to go to another home. So, you know. Condemn it if you want, but think carefully about your logic in doing so and reassess what exactly it is you consider a reputable breeder. Pick what matters – keeping the dog for life, or an active breeding program, active in showing and trialing, a good reputation and a vision they’re striving for. The two are contradictory enough that you’re going to be hard pressed to find both, if it’s possible at all.

A member of my Mystique family asked me when they should transition to senior food for their Griff and their 80 lb dog. Toy breed dogs start showing their age or slowing down later than large breed dogs do. And large breed dogs often have more hip problems than toy breed dogs do. So my suggestion is switch a large breed dog to senior food by the time they’re about eight or nine years old. If your toy breed has hip or patella problems, I would switch them when you see signs of hip or patella problems. Or you can keep them on adult food and use a supplement specifically targeting those issues. If they’re still active and not showing signs of slowing down very much, you could wait another year or two. Personally, I switch my Griffs around eight years. I also give them a joint supplement.

•A senior dog food may offer numerous benefits to aging dogs, including:
High-quality protein sources in greater amounts than adult maintenance formulas to support lean muscle mass
Appropriate caloric balance from fat and protein, additional nutrients, like glucosamine and omega-3 fatty acids to support joint health and mobility,
Vitamin A and linoleic acid to support healthy skin and coat.

Bear with me. This is a very sensitive subject for me. This post comes about because a friend of a friend said she absolutely could not be in the room with her elderly dog when she was euthanized. That breaks my heart, made me cry and made me so angry I have to tell her that she is selfish and weak!! I have never and will never let one of my fur family cross the rainbow bridge without me holding them in my arms, telling them how much I love them , how much better my life has been with them in it, that I will always remember them, miss them forever and how I know they are going to a place where they will not feel any more pain and they’ll be able to run free with all of my fur family that have crossed the rainbow bridge before them. Please! Do not walk away from your fur family when the end has come. You wouldn’t walk away from a skin family member would you!? I truly hope none of my Mystique family do what that person did. Don’t abandon your fur family! Show your fur family the love and respect they deserve!
