REQUEST for SERVICE: A friend asked if someone is available to help install a rain barrel - for her AND other Columbus homeowners. Do we have anyone - perhaps a local landscaper, gardener, or handyperson -- who's confident enough to offer this as a regular service? What would you charge for a basic service?

Put your info in the comments if interested - as a service provider OR as someone who needs this service. Let's get you "hooked up" LOL.

FRESH, HIGH QUALITY VEGETABLES AND FRUIT Local food is usually sold to the consumer within hours of being picked. In contrast, the average vegetable in the grocery store is 5 to 7 days old, sometimes as much as 2 weeks old, before the consumer buys it. MORE NUTRITIOUS THAN WHAT YOU CAN GET AT A GROC...

Come visit us!

In addition to our weekly open hours on Sunday afternoons from 1 to 5pm, we'll also be participating in the Simply Living Garden Tour on Saturday, July 15th, 2023. The event opens at noon and closes at 6pm at the The Urban Farm Church : stop there first to pick up a map, get oriented with parking and other amenities, and visit with lots of local vendors. We really love our neighborhood, and are proud to be counted among the many who are doing cool things with urban properties! Several stops are within walking or biking distance of each other, and other spots further afield are easily accessible by car or bus.

The nursery will be available for public shopping during these hours, and Julie and Jim will each take turns conducting behind the scenes tours through our urban farm and other outdoor initiatives, including many types of upcycling, rainwater collection, hugelkultur, organic practices, honey bees, and community.

Come be a part of what makes Columbus special!

[JOB POSTING for paid interns! If interested, contact [email protected], below.]

Now Hiring!

My small ecological landscaping company, Catch the Water, is now hiring for internships and summer / fall jobs. We focus on utilizing stormwater to re-create habitat diversity with native plants. Great for gardeners, students or graduates in Natural Resources, Forestry, Ecology, Biology, Entomology, Environmental Studies, Landscape Architecture, etc.

This is not a typical landscape crew job, but more like applied ecology. Pay is commensurate with experience. Some work is strenuous, with lighter work sometimes available, including planting and bookkeeping. I need reliable people who are hungry to learn through doing. 3-5 days per week as soon as possible through June and beyond.

Interested parties should explore CatchTheWater.com and then contact me at 614-301-8860 or [email protected]. Resumes welcome.

Ready for our big Wild Ones Native Plant Sale? Here's your checklist to shop it like a pro.

>LOCATION/TIME: Saturday May 27th from 9am-1pm at the parking lot of Overbrook Church, 4131 N High St. Columbus, Oh. Entrance off Croswell Rd.

>SETUP: There will be 4 areas at the sale where you can purchase plants: Wild Ones Columbus, Natives In Harmony, Scioto Gardens, and Leaves for Wildlife. Plants should be purchased separately from each.

>PAYMENT METHODS: Wild Ones plants can be purchased with Cash, Venmo, or Paypal. The 3 native plant nurseries all accept Credit card or Cash.

>PLANT TRANSPORT: If you're planning to buy more plants than fit in your hands (of course you are!), consider bringing a cardboard box, crate, wagon or something else to more easily transport. We'll likely have some trays and boxes on hand, but not usually enough.

>PARKING: The site has a parking lot available for customers. Please follow signs as the entrance and exit will be one way only. Once the parking lot is full, there is ample street parking available in the surrounding area. We just ask that you be respectful of the neighborhood and ensure you are parking legally, and not blocking traffic or driveways.

>PLANT LIST: There will be a wide variety of native flowers, shrubs, and trees that support a diverse ecosystem. From staple pollinator flowers to unique finds, we'll have it all. Wild Ones plant list is provided here. More to be added later, but this is most of it. Each of the native plant nurseries have plant lists on their websites, and they'll presumably be bringing some subset of that. TBD.
