I am writing the post that I had hoped I wouldn’t have to compose for several more years. On December 16, we lost our sweet kitty boy, Maui Popoki. It’s hard to even type those words. Maui was a cat who figured out fairly early that the best things in life were love, naps, snuggles and food. He could spend hours happily on one of our laps, getting attention and belly rubs. He was diabetic, so during the last 10 years of his life, he needed blood glucose testing and insulin twice a day. He faced this with much patience, probably knowing we had his best interests in mind, and that if he sat still for his tests, there would be food afterwards.
Six years ago, he developed Iris Melanoma, and his eye was removed. Again, he took it all in stride, knowing we loved him, and were doing what was best for him. And he was the cutest pirate kitty ever.
It’s so hard to say goodbye to a pet that you love so much, and who brought so much happiness to our lives. He had a big, funny personality; mostly sweet and loving, and sometimes annoyed that we just couldn’t stop touching and petting him. He gave the best snuggles ever, often laying in my arms like a baby. He often farted on us, and we took that as part of the price of his love. He slept in bed with us, and many times tried to push us out of his way so he could be even more comfortable. He loved ice cream and sweets, and had the cutest pink nose. He was a very special cat, and our house is definitely not the same now. We will miss him tremendously. He was the best cat ever.

#TBT -- this is from when we lived in Omaha, Nebraska. Mom would come home from work everyday and find her sweatpants on the dining room floor. One day she figured out how it was happening. ;)

My brother, Bruce, gets a bit pushy sometimes, so I need to show him who's really The Boss.
