Look at how handsome our Ice Man is in his new halter!

We selected Ice from the 2024 gather in Devil’s Garden. Their adoption process is slightly different than the BLM and we were able to study photos and videos of available horses before selecting a list of our favorites. Ice’s original description said he was slightly nervous so I had passed him over but a few days before the adoption day they updated that he settled in and was stealing food of the feed truck. That little update caused me to move him up to our top 3 on our list and when we got the call number 1&2 were already adopted. Ice broke the internet with his pick up video. It got a lot of attention on TikTok because we had a “wild” horse for refused to get on a trailer no matter what we did. He was a very quick learner and was fully gentled within a few days.
Ice got scooped up as soon as we shared his adoptable post. He spent few months at saddle school in Georgia and is now home with his new owner in Tennessee. Pam and Ice hope to do a little western dressage in addition to trail riding.
Ice is the perfect example of how quickly these horses can adapt and is also a good example of why we love our Devils Garden horses so much.

We finished up introducing our current residents but what about the ones that have left?

Delilah is still thriving at her new home in Connecticut. Delilah was hard to start, she took 4 months to halter and also seemed to be ready for the worst. She’s a smart mare that learned quickly and deserved to be give a chance. We were fortunate to find someone willing to slow down and work at her pace.

Last up!

Dutton, our youngest Mustang is a 2023 Calico Mountain (NV) gelding born in holding. Adrienne adopted him in June 2024, he wasn’t her first choice but she likes his confirmation and the way he moved. Dutton is your typical goofy young gelding with a puppy dog personality. He spends his days running laps and messing with his pasture buddies. Adrienne has done groundwork and lots of desensitizing with him. Over the summer he traveled off property for the first time to a Liberty clinic.
Dutton will turn three on Feb 1st and then will begin working lightly under saddle. He is Adrienne’s personal horse and is not sponsored by Wild Strides but will serve as an ambassador for future events. 🐴

Next up is our bonus pony, Jagger. Jagger was gathered just a year ago from Devils Garden HMA in California. He helped us get Ice on the trailer and earned himself at Wild Strides as payment for his efforts.
Jagger is 13 years old meaning he spent the first 12 years of his life as a stallion in the Wild. He had more than enough scars to prove he fought hard while out there too.
Jagger is available for adoption! He can be led, is getting better about picking up his feet and respects fences. He is a bit of a bully and definitely likes to be in charge. He was slow to trust people but has been making steady progress. He’s our oldest Mustang to date but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a lot to offer.
If interested in adopting Jagger you can fill out an adoption form on our website

Meet Magnolia, she is a 2019 Divide Basin (WY) mare. She was rounded up 10/24/2021 and was adopted June 2023 by a 13 year old client of Megan’s who wanted to learn the gentling process under Megan’s guidance. Eventually, the client moved Magnolia to her own farm and decided she enjoyed the gentling process so much she was going to rehome Magnolia to have the space to take another. Megan didn’t want to see Magnolia go to just anyone so she encouraged Adrienne to consider the bay mare for her first mustang.
Adrienne took Magnolia home in January 2024, with less than a dozen rides on her Adrienne spent the winter working with Magnolia learning her personality, who is stubborn, intelligent and challenges you in the best way.
Adrienne and Magnolia currently compete in classic dressage and western dressage. You can meet Magnolia at the Horse World Expo in PA this March.
Magnolia is Adrienne’s personal horse and is not sponsored by Wild Strides but actively attends events as an ambassador.

Ohhh Laredo 🎶
Laredo was rounded up from White Mountain HMA in Wyoming in August of 2024 as a 6 year old stallion. He was listed as available on the March Internet Adoption and after a week of stressing over bidding Megan finally pulled the trigger and won him. After winning his bid we found several photos of him in the wild!
Laredo is a good example of the risk you take when bidding on horses. He was listed as 15 hands when in reality he stands a whooping 13.3 hands tall. In addition to being a tad shorter than expected he has also racked up a decent amount of vet bills since coming here in June. Laredos time in the wild was not kind on his body, he has arthritis pain in all 4 legs and we are still working with our vet to get him to be more comfortable.
Despite all of that he has a home for life with Megan. He’s extremely laid back and has a go with the flow type attitude towards everything we’ve done with him so far. He’s going to be traveling to events with us as an ambassador, and has a future job as a kids pony lined up.
Laredo’s vet bill and care is not covered by wild strides but if you would like to send him a present for Christmas you can check out our wish list.

Next up, Meet Hayes

Last January we decided to participate in the online auction that is held every other month by the BLM. We tried to keep strict rules about the horses we would bid on. Those rules included age and height range but also we wanted a horse that was a sale authority and we didn’t want to bid against any other adopters so a horse that we could get for the minimum of $125. Hayes ended up being that horse!
We picked Hayes up at the NH adoption event in April and he’s been with us since. Hayes is proving to be our most difficult horse to gentle yet. He’s still untouched and reactive to people being in his space.
In the last few weeks he has begun so show a little bit of improvement. We are currently working on getting him interested in working with us through the fence. He’s food motivated so hopefully we can get that to work in our favor.
We have had many conversations on what Hayes future looks like. Some horses just never come around and we are not set up to care for one like that long term.
We won Hayes bid while the incentive program was still going on so even though he was a sale authority horse we chose to adopt him. Because we adopted him we do have the option of returning him to the BLM. We are reaching out to some sanctuaries first but most are full.
We are giving him the winter to see if he will change his mind but so far he’s telling us that domestic life isn’t for him.
Hayes is looking for sponsors to cover his monthly care of $300/month or a sponsor to donate to cover the cost of a chute estimated between $2500-3500. Having a chute to run horses through for medical care would give us the option of keeping Hayes.

Kona is ready for her close up!
Kona is a coming 7 year old mare from Divide Basin HMA in Wyoming. She is a sale authority horse that we won in the March internet auction. We picked her up in June and Jenna took over training her. She competed in the Maryland Mustang Extravaganza and held her own.
Kona is a little weary of strangers but she’s beginning to open up some. She’s a delight to have around the farm and puts the red mare stereotype to shame.
We have some big plans coming up for Kona. While she is ready to be offered for adoption we are hoping to hang on to her a little longer.
If everything works out how we hope Kona will be available for lease to a show home in 2027. Until then Kona would love some sponsors to help with monthly care.

Feyre is a sweet mare who just can’t fully let her guard down. She’s a 2014 mare who was born in holding and spent the first 10 years of her life there. (Sand Wash Basin HMA Wyoming)She was surrendered to us last December and we have been able to make a little progress in getting her trusting us.
She truly thrived while being worked with by Jenna and proved she does want to learn she’s just picky in who and how she’s communicated with.
Feyre will most likely be a long term resident with us as we don’t see her ever being able to adjust to a fully domestic life. We hope to get her to the point that she can be handled for necessary care but otherwise we’re ok with her being our wild girl who stands around and looks pretty.
Feyre is in need of sponsors! Her monthly care is around $300/month but any amount is appreciated!

She may have a plain bay wrapper but she’s sure to grab your attention. Echo makes her presence known no matter where she goes.
Echo was born in holding in 2022 out of a Sand Springs HMA mare(Oregon).
Echo was a last minute bid on the online auction. Megan had her eye on a few flashier horses but was outbid and decided to take a chance on the bay filly with the pretty face in the last hour of the sale.
She’s enthusiastic about life and full of personality. Echo has a little bit of liberty work under her belt and was started under saddle this past fall. We’re keeping her riding work light due to her age but she’s showing a ton of potential already.
Echo will be used as an ambassador at events once she’s mature enough to stand still. She’ll be heading out to schooling shows this spring.
Echo will be looking for a leaser in about a year(2027) until then she would love some sponsors or some treats from our wishlist
