📊 We did a poll on our page, and the majority of our audience faces this common challenge with their dogs. Let's dive into some pawsitive ➕solutions! 👣

🐶 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗝𝘂𝗺𝗽: Dogs are social and greet face to face, so jumping is often their way of saying hello. But we can teach them better ways to connect!

🚫 Preventing Jumping:

• Keep greetings calm.
• Ask your dog to sit before they get a chance to jump, making sitting their default attention-seeking behavior.
• If you can't supervise, confine your dog to prevent rewarding jumps.

✋ Handling the Jump:

• Withdraw attention immediately - no eye contact, talking, or touching.
• Fold your arms and turn away.
• If your dog persists, withdraw attention briefly, redirect to "sit" or "down," and reward calm behavior.

🎯 Training Approach:

• Teach your dog what you WANT them to do instead of jumping.
• Click and treat when they come towards you without jumping.
• Gradually delay the click until they calmly stand.
• If they jump, ignore and sidestep.

🧐 Proofing the Behavior:

• Practice in various situations where jumping might occur.
• Consider using a leash while others provoke jumping behavior.

🤐 Ignoring is Key:

• IGNORE the dog completely - arms folded, no words, no eye contact.
• Click and treat when all four paws are on the floor.
• Gradually increase the time before rewarding.
• Reward frequently during everyday interactions.
• Consistency among household members is crucial.

• Every dog learns at their own pace - some quickly, some take time.
• It may take 2-4 weeks of consistent training for your dog to stop jumping.

Meet our head trainer, Jan Gonzales! 🐾 Jan is not only the founder of Pawsitive Puppy Dog Training but also our dedicated KPA-CPT head trainer.

Jan's journey into professional dog training began with American Eskimo Dogs in the '90s. In 2020, she embarked on formal dog trainer education at the Karen Pryor Dog Training Academy, and today, she's a certified professional dog trainer, known for her dedication and expertise.

As Jan puts it, "I love training puppies and new puppy parents who basically have a clean slate and learn so much by the time we are done." 🐶✨

One of Jan's most rewarding training experiences was working with Melia and Mollie. They had been through a rough time with the recent passing of a loved one. Jan stepped in to help Melia care for Mollie, who was in need of walks. After just a few sessions, Jan worked her magic, and Melia was able to confidently walk Mollie. It was truly a win-win situation that made life more enjoyable for everyone involved. 🐾❤️

Jan's dedication to her craft is evident as she holds certifications in dog & cat CPR, is an AKC Evaluator, and has completed Beginning Behavior Consulting at The International Association of Behavior Consulting. 🎓🐾

🐶 it’s Training Tip Friday and we are back with Potty Training Tips for Puppies featuring Buckeye! 🐾

Potty training can sometimes be a challenge, but with the right approach, you can set your pup up for success! 🌟 Here are some tips from our expert trainer, Jan Gonzales KPA-CPT, at Pawsitive Puppy Dog Training:

1. Consistent Schedule 🕒:
Establishing a regular potty schedule helps your puppy understand when and where they should go. Try to keep them under close supervision and take them out first thing in the morning, shortly after meals and water breaks, play time, and before bed. Consistency is key to reinforce this routine.

2. Positive Reinforcement 🌟:
When your pup does their business in the right spot, shower them with praise, pets, and treats. One tip is to have a treat pouch on you when you take them out for potty attempts so you have treats ready! Positive reinforcement creates a strong connection between the desired behavior and rewards, making it more likely to happen again.

3. Patience is Key 🐾:
Remember, every puppy learns at their own pace. Be patient and understanding when accidents happen. Avoid punishment, as it can lead to anxiety and confusion. Instead, focus on reinforcing the right behavior.

Had a great daycare training session with Blitz yesterday! In addition to multiple play sessions with other dogs, he was able to learn some new skills while his mom & dad were at work! They picked up one tired puppy! We are working on his loose leash walking & recall skills. Also, today is his FIRST BIRTHDAY! Happy Birthday Blitz 🐶🎉
