There are many bad habits that start to creep in when you have a dog.
This is one of those very easy habits that we start to add in to our everyday interactions... and it is such an easy trap to fall into.
Why ?... because sometimes it does work.
Watch an old video and you may just be shocked by how many times we can use names in many different contexts and expect them to understand....many times though we will just start to say their name over and over again with a grumpier tone every time we say it because they aren't responding.
In our mind we may think they know what we want.
In their mind.....we have given NO clear direction at all.
🔵Repeating their name over and over again to get their attention is a habit we have to break, this leads to dogs becoming "deaf" to their own name.
🔵Not saying a cue or "command"....just repeating their name again and again.
🔵Saying their name in anger is a really big issue.
🔵 They may be showing an unwanted behaviour and instead of saying what we would like as a wanted behaviour, we just keep repeating their name over again in an effort to get them to stop what they are doing. Our frustration and anger can be rising the more we repeat their name.
If you haven't taught your dog to "Leave" or "Drop it" teach them HOW and stop the circle of using their name when they show that unwanted behaviour of having a chew on that shoe.
Repeating names is a very big issue and it is our issue to resolve.

Too much, too soon.
It is unrealistic and unfair to expect a dog to listen to you in a busy environment when they haven't been taught how or they already struggle listening inside the home. Many people seek training because they want to reach a goal, which is great! Every goal needs small steps to become a reality.
Focus doesn't just happen in exciting environments, or even moderately distracting settings if a dog has never been taught how to listen in the most comfortable and predictable surroundings.
Sometimes people become increasingly frustrated with their dog because of this... but fail to realise that the issue lies at the human end of the lead.
If time isn't taken to show a dog HOW to listen in low level distracting environments....how are they expected to listen when there are buses, cyclists, dogs and walkers around?
🔵Focus is a skill which can be taught.
🔵Don't increase environments until you have had success (and repeated success) with lower level distractions.
🔵If your dog struggles to listen in your home, they won't magically listen when they are outside of it.
🔵Expecting anything different is just unfair unless you show them how.
There are many reasons why dogs won't listen, but not being taught how is a very common one.

I Ain't Misbehavin'… I’m just misunderstood
What we often think of as misbehaviour is often just a dog behaving like a dog naturally does.
We expect so much of our dogs when we bring them into our lives, forgetting that they are a different species that doesn’t interact with the world in the same way that we do.
We hold them captive in a confined, unnatural space and become frustrated when they don’t behave the way we expect them to.
We become frustrated when our dogs don’t walk nicely on a lead, don’t get on with every other dog or person they meet, steal food from counter tops, don’t give things back, guard resources, dig, chew or destroy what they shouldn’t, bark, howl or whine too much etc.
We need to replace our frustration and our need to train away or fix unwanted behaviour with understanding and patience.
Understanding that dogs naturally behave in a certain way and patience in guiding them to learn a different behaviour using force free, positive reinforcement methods or by better managing their environment.
Providing outlets to engage in natural behaviour, providing mental, physical and social stimulation and understanding why dogs behave the way they do will make a huge difference to their lives.
One of the greatest gifts we can give our dogs is our understanding.

Hello to all my new folks who have liked my page thanks to my lovely clients and friends. ♥️
First and foremost, I am Haley.
I’m a 26 year old animal caretaker and I care for just about any animal you can think of, but yes, mostly dogs and cats.
I also take care of my mema during half the day when I am not working, and I take care of my baby nephew twice a week morning until noon. All very rewarding jobs.
I run my business from my home or I can be mobile for some services.
I am a certified Vet’s assistant and certified in animal safety/CPR. I went to school for it and graduated in 2020.
This is not a hobby or side job for me. This is full time, 7 days a week. I board, pet sit, train, dog walk, and groom. I look forward to answering any and all questions about myself, my animals, and what I do!
Pm me for info on prices and such.
Have a great week! 🐾

Dogs die. But dogs live, too. Right up until they die, they live.
They live brave, beautiful lives. They protect their families. And love us. And make our lives a little brighter. And they don't waste time being afraid of tomorrow. 🥺🥺

There is nothing natural about large numbers of unfamiliar dogs partaking in high-intensity activity in a dog park, and this shouldn’t be the benchmark for a social dog. If your dog is not their best in such an environment, you are not doing anything wrong. 👏👏 There is nothing wrong with your dog. 👏👏 Your dog is normal. 👏👏

Leela, my 3 yr old knows phrases and words totaling 42 and Timber my 10 yr old knows 45. I’m sure there’s more but just counted fast. How many words does your pup know?
have a huge capacity to learn from us and are doing so often without our awareness. Remember we’re all they’ve got and they’re watching every move we make and listening to every word we mutter. So have fun talking to your friend.

These two 🤣 first day back to work since my dad passed and these babies always bring me a smile. We couldn’t stay outside to play long today because it rained so we played inside and Daisy was letting Toby know that this was her toy!
Remi is one of the only big dogs I trust around my boys. She’s so gentle and submissive with them. She waits for them to come out of their room every night so she can play. She’s borderline obsessed with them and if I go to bed before she sees them, she won’t leave my mom alone and runs up and down the stairs to see if someone will let them out 🤣 I’ve always had and loved big dogs but I’ve also witnessed my own shepherds have a strong dislike for other dogs so I have to be very careful. However, Remi is so good with them even when they’re being mean. It makes me fall a little bit more in love with her all the time.
