A good reminder as Easter approaches

Easter and Mother's Day are two of the most dangerous holidays for cats for one reason: lily poisoning. 💐

As a part of our No Lilies for Kitties educational campaign, we're kicking off the series by sharing which species of lilies are toxic to cats. True lilies (Lilium species) and daylilies (Hemerocallis species) are extremely toxic to cats and can potentially cause severe kidney failure. Check out the graphic below for examples, and visit the link below to learn more:

It is officially tick season! These nasty parasites are more than just annoying, they carry many diseases such as Lyme disease, Anaplasmosis, Ehrlichia, and others that can cause serious illnesses in dogs. We are seeing an increasing number of dogs with these illnesses as ticks that carry the diseases are migrating more into our region.

Prevention of ticks with an effective flea/tick preventative is the first line of protection to prevent disease transmission. Come talk to us about which products we recommend!

Vaccination is another way to protect your dog from Lyme disease. Borrelia burgdorferi is the bacteria responsible Lyme disease and we offer a vaccine that aids in the prevention of disease. The Lyme vaccine should be given in an initial series of two vaccines given 2-3 weeks apart and then a single booster is administered annually. If you live in an area with heavy tick infestations or your dog is frequently exposed to ticks, the Lyme vaccine can help protect your pet.

Spring is coming! 🌺🌸🌷

It's time to stock up on monthly preventatives. We carry multiple different options for your pets and would love to help you pick out the best option for your animal. We can help answer any questions you might have about the products and their differences.🐕🐈

We recommend keeping your dog and cat on flea and tick prevention. Ticks carry Lyme disease and other tick-born illnesses that can negatively impact your pet's health. Fleas are parasites that can lead to multiple health problems such as skin allergies, anemia, and tapeworm infections. Prevention is the best strategy to keep your dog or cat from getting sick. 🐈‍⬛🐶

We also recommend a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm disease is spread by mosquitoes. Adult heartworms live in the blood vessels of the lungs causing stress on the heart and damage to lung. If your dog has not been on heartworm prevention, we can schedule a heartworm test prior to beginning a preventative to avoid adverse reactions.🐩🐱

Ultrasounds are a good option to confirm pregnancy in dogs. Ultrasound can be performed at 30 days gestation. At that time, we can check for heartbeats on the puppies and measure their size.

If you would like to schedule an ultrasound for your expectant female, call us at 641-872-2546!

We had our first kitty manicure today. We do not carry the caps in clinic so clients must provide them and we can put them on if needed. Soft paws are a great alternative to declawing, and come in all sorts of fun colors.
