Okay, where did our nice coastal breeze go? Why does it feel like Earth has traded orbits with Venus?

It’s crazy and without our coastal breezes, it’s really crappy.🔥☀️🥵🔥🔥☀️☀️

Kept my AC On, and dogs inside.

Borrowed from a FB friend!

Quality of Life scale:

“Pawspice,” a quality-of-life program that takes terminally ill pets from diagnosis through the eventual transition to hospice before death, is the creation of renowned veterinary oncologist Alice Villalobos, DVM, FNAP. It includes a scoring system called the HHHHHMM (H5M2 Quality of Life) Scale to assist a pet’s family members in considering key aspects of an ailing pet’s experience. The five H’s are Hurt, Hunger, Hydration, Hygiene, and Happiness; the two M's, Mobility and More Good Days than Bad. The criteria are judged on a scale of 0 to 10. A total less than 35 suggests that the dog may be better served with euthanasia rather than continued life. However, if a pet can’t breathe properly, nothing else matters.

The HHHHHMM Scale*
Based on a scale of 0 to 10, with 10 ideal.

____ HURT: Is the pet’s pain well managed? Can the pet breathe properly? Pain and breathing difficulty are top concerns, and trouble breathing outweighs all concerns. 10 = no pain; 0 = severe pain.

____ HUNGER: Is the pet eating enough? Does handfeeding help? Would a feeding tube help? 10 = good appetite; 0 = no appetite

____ HYDRATION: Is the pet properly hydrated? For patients not drinking enough water, will using subcutaneous fluids daily or twice daily be enough of a supplement? 10 = well hydrated; 0 = severe dehydration, even SQ are not sufficient

____ HYGIENE: Can the pet be kept clean, including after eliminations, or is self-soiling persistent and difficult to tend to? Can pressure sores be avoided with soft bedding and frequent turning? 10 = clean & can eliminate normally; 0 = soiled or can't easily eliminate

____HAPPINESS: Does the pet express joy and interest? Is the pet responsive to family, toys, etc.? Is the pet depressed, lonely, anxious, bored, or afraid? 10 = very happy & interacts well with family; 0 = not happy, nor involved with family

____ MOBILITY: Can the pet get up without assistance? Can the pet get by without human or mechanical help (e.g., a cart)? Does the pet feel like going for a walk? Is the pet having seizures or stumbling? (Some caregivers feel euthanasia is preferable to amputation, but an animal with limited mobility yet still alert, happy and responsive can have a good quality of life as long as caregivers are committed to helping their pet.) 10 = no problem getting around; 0 = unable to move, at all, normally

____ MORE GOOD DAYS THAN BAD: When bad days outnumber good days, quality of life might be too compromised. 10 = every day is "good;" 0 = every day is bad

____ TOTAL: A total of more than 35 points represents acceptable life quality. If this number is below 35 you may want to have a serious discussion with your pet's healthcare team regarding more advanced management techniques or end of life options.

While you are on this journey please remember to take a lot of pictures and videos. Start a memory book with paw and nose prints and tufts of fur. And, especially if you have children. Including them in creating these memories can help them. Children often benefit from some sort of memorial service. And, write a farewell letter.

And from Baldwin Park shelter, they have closed DAWG intakes and open, meet and greets for right now because of the presence of this infection.

Apparently, they are allowing some adoptions, and the dogs will be sent home with a course of antibiotics

Washing one of the BIG dog beds, not that I have big dogs, but these big beds are nice for when I get three or four little dogs who just wanna stay up close with each other. Plus a bunch of other dog beds. You can take the covers off and wash.

So I’m taking care of all those and it’s really cool that I put white plastic trash bags or black trash bags (depending on the cushion size) around the cushion itself.. that way no urine can get into the bedding itself. When I take off the dirty covers, I simply wipe down the plastic covered cushions after their washed and dried. I put the cushion covers back on - perfect!

Compacted some of my X-Pens to keep dogs contained only during their meal times. Most of them no longer need to be confined, but I did leave a couple put together so when I do go to the store, I can maybe leave a new Foster in there.

Dogs can hear sounds of up to 50,000 vibrations per second (50,000Hz), nearly twice as many frequencies as humans, and can hear sounds 4 times further away than us.

The World Health Organization lists 120 decibels as the pain threshold for sound in humans and the CDC says noise over 120 decibels can cause immediate harm to hearing.👂🏻

🎆 Fireworks measure between 150 to 190 decibels!

Now try and imagine what fireworks would sound like for a dog. You probably couldn’t seeing 18 muscles control the ears of dogs🐶 while humans only have 6.

We need to find better alternatives to fireworks🧨, not only for the sake of our dogs but for all wildlife and the health of our PLANET.

Today it feels very warm about 85° in Costa Mesa. On Sunday the 30th that will be 88° if not warmer already trees are on fire at Costa Mesa’s Fairview Park and our neighbor had to go out and light his smoker. Thank goodness, I have my air conditioner in my room. And my dogs are in my house with us.

But of course, we do go for walks, sometimes not often, but please bear this in mind when you’re out on a trek with your pup.

‼️🥵‼️🥵‼️🥵‼️🥵‼️🥵‼️🥵‼️
⚠️🚙⚠️ Despite the warnings, hundreds of dogs in the U.S. die every year after being left in a hot car. Someone you know may need to read this very important message. ⚠️🚙⚠️

SIX MINUTES is all it takes for a dog to overheat in a hot car.

Your dog could suffer serious injury or die in a matter of minutes if left alone in a car.

• The temperature inside a closed vehicle left in the sun can double within 12 minutes.

• At least 75% of the temperature increase in a closed vehicle occurs within 5 minutes of closing the vehicle, and at least 89% of the temperature increase occurs within 15 minutes of closing the vehicle.

• Temperatures exceeding 104˚ F can lead to death or serious injury for the occupants.

• Temperatures in a closed vehicle sitting in the hot sun can reach 160˚F and above. An animal will suffer immeasurably and may die before the temperature reaches 150˚F.

• Even when parked in the shade, the vehicle temperatures can exceed 104˚C.

• Leaving windows down more than 2 inches on an unattended vehicle will not prevent a car from reaching extreme temperatures.

• Even if the animal is revived, they can die due to severe internal organ damage.

Your dog trusts you to have their best interest at heart ALWAYS.
Please don’t risk their safety.

If you are not taking your dog inside your destination with you, PLEASE leave them at home where they are comfortable and safe.

This time windows were open onto Brighton Street. We dropped Charlie and pop it off for their dental treatment so now we’re gonna go out for a small breakfast and go home and I’ve got babies to Groom.

Just said goodbye to one of my fosters as the pup goes to the adopters. I’ll miss the tiny babe!! But it is part of the deal to get them out of high kill shelters. We take them in and socialize them if they need it or just let them stay in a home environment far less stressful for these dogs.

So if you cannot adopt a dog, try fostering, you’ll get the love of the dog at least for a temporary time and you’re helping them be placed in better environments.

Because my bedroom is a room addition, I don’t have any of the ducting for heating or temperature control, so I had to get a mini split put into my room. It is actually pretty decent. I’m glad I did it, but I’ll be *very frugal* for the next year or so.I want one of these for my grooming area in my garage when I can get the bill paid on this one. We also had to replace our hot water heater just before this….💰💵💸🤑😢

Oh, please! if I see one more dog food ad for freeze dried raw and saying how can we tolerate bringing out expensive food to defrost etc. etc. I’m gonna scream.

Do we not bring out frozen food to cook for ourselves? So why the heck is bringing out a bag of frozen dog food such a “chore“??

When I fed my dogs a raw diet, the backyard smelled like a toxic waste dump and they were not really all that thriving. They were too fat no matter how much I cut the stuff back from their meals, but what the heck?

When I see one company sort of offhandedly, putting down another company, it makes me not want to support them at all.

Just a hint to your advertising executives; do better. First was Sunday’s and now this one? Sheesh!

When I see SILENCED unknown callers, but NO VOICEMAILS…. You will NOT get a call back. if it is important, please leave a voicemail.

So tired of the laziness! If people do not leave a voicemail then I won’t know what the hell you want and I’m not gonna call back a strange number.

Well, I got a Pomeranian bathed, conditioned and brushed out during the tail end of the CBS news special on the eclipse. Out here in boring old California. We just had a small bit of dimming in the morning, but nothing remarkable to speak of.

I will be taking care of my own dogs bathing this week, and I have a Doggie Daycare with ears that need some attention

Took care of a beautiful little foster girl today she was so torn up that we had to wait weeks while she healed up, but she is healed and all set!

So today I just said to heck with it turned on the heater in the garage Grooming area and gave her a bath with some decent luxury products.

After the way she was living I’m sure she loved it because there was no argument at all from her!
