So, recently I have had a couple of different people ask me to just cut their dogs hair and not bathe them. This is done I think partially because they don’t want to spend the money on me bathing and blow drying them. But in order to show the difference I took photos at different points in this groom.

Photo 1- this is what I was brought.

Photo 2- dirty cut, no bath (this is the point that she wanted me to send him home at).

Photo 3- bath and blow dry no finish cut yet.

Photo 4- all finished and ready to go home.

Now, this is a 1 year old golden doodle and only his 2nd professional grooming. He didn’t no stand well, he moved constantly and we did a lot of training. This cut can look better but it’s as good as it gets for this young man.

Okay, these odd bald like patches on this Australian shepherd show what alopecia from shaving looks like. The hair of double coated dogs was never meant to be shaved and while sometimes it doesn’t do this each time you shave them the risk gets higher that their hair will never grow back right again. I have not found a cure for this but I did my best to blend in the spots with the longer sections of her coat.

Okay I have loaded two fairly longish videos on cost maintenance for curly dogs so if you guys have any questions please feel free to ask. I really love our pets and want them to have the best possible lives. Mats are painful and can cause not only skin irritation but possibly permanent bald spots if not taken care of quickly. Tangles and mats are different and I can show you in just a couple pictures how they even look different. All dogs get tangles or even some knots but not all are matted.
The first pic is an extremely matted doodle.

The second pic is of my poodle freshly brushed out.

Just know, groomers can tell how much maintenance you do or don’t do or if you walk your dog. Just like a dentist can tell if you actually floss or not LOL!

These two border collie crosses took me just under 5 hours to complete. Their coats were severely impacted and they had matting in their britches and bellies. To keep this kind of thing from happening you either have to brush them even just once a week or plan to have them in to see a groomer about every 8-12 weeks. Allowing their coats to get this far out of control is where you see double coated dogs getting shaved (which is very bad for their coats) or you see grumpy dogs because their hair is painful where it is pulling on the skin.

Ear care!! I also use a clearer after their bath that helps dry the ear just in case some water got down there. It’s called Ear Care formula for dogs and cats from Life’s Abundance. I keep this in stock in my shop in case people need it.

This is a long video but I cover a lot. Hope it helps. Mail trimming, both white and black nails. And care and maintenance on your tools.
