We raise Black Angus cattle and farm several acres of hay, in addition to our "regular jobs." We also have the usual menagerie of farm pets including; horses, goats, cats and dogs. Our two boys are just beginning their adult lives. Our oldest was recently married to his high school sweet heart and works for the rail road. Our youngest works for an environmental clean up company. I am the resident
bee keeper. Beekeeping is something Rich and I have talked about off and on since moving to our farm in 2003. Not long after I finished my Bachelors Degree in Biology, I decided I wanted to keep bees. I read several books, did some research, and eventually ended up taking a first time bee keepers class, offered through Sangamon Valley Beekeepers Association. I got my first hive in April of 2011. I added two more hives in April of 2012. Our plan is to keep learning and keep growing. Gypsy's Bees was started in April of 2011. Our bees are Italians. They were purchased from Long Lane Honey Bee Farm. We keep bees for the benefit of the bees, our yard, garden and fruit trees. We also keep them for the honey. We offer honey, hive rental, educational opportunities and all natural products made using honey and bees wax.
